As soon as he had taken that huge breath Asani had been relieved.
Although the boy hadn't strayed farther then a few meter from him the previous weeks.
They had gone back to the celebrations, eyes full of pity had followed him and people went out of their way to either apologize or commend him in his bravery and sacrifice.
Asani had told him it wasn't needed but how could he pass on a moment where they could witness the effects themselves. He had quite literally broken down in Asani's arm after the drug was washed away.
Struggling for breath as he weezed and cried his heart out, with the help of the system.
Quite touching moment
After the breakdown they went about calmly, he had looked put together but the redness of his eyes had bene unmistakable.
Everywhere eyes, every moment and action had been noted. Even now people were still talking!
And he was sure Asani was recording every moment.
Those at the party were he mentioned he was proud and those happening in the castle.
Asani even made sure he received everything he needed, Acacius for one was sure June had told him what he liked to eat and such but he hadn't come across the other.
"Asani.''
"Yes, uncle." As always he answered immediately.
"Where is June?
I have not seen him yet.''
''Oh..I have send him to look for Cyra
I know how much you love her."
Not minding the words, he spoke in turn.
''As could be said about you.
You should really tell your friend you like her.'' Itw as easy to feel the tension between the two, the need for something more.
''That is...true I suppose.''
"So why haven't you?''
"It just hasn't come to it, with everything...I quess we were both busy surviving.''
''And you will always be, the point is to try and make something of your life during it.''
Such wise words, Asani seemed to take the words to heart as he stilled.
''Uncle, may I ask something.?''
"Go ahead.'' Mindlessly flipping a page of a book he was reading, he awaited the question.
He didn't see the way Asani struggled to speak, hand clenched around his own book and papers.
"Are you dying?''
Letting go of his book in shock, he turned to him. ''What are you talking about?!"
"On the day mother drugged you, there was a doctor.''
''I'm aware..?''
''He spoke to me afterwards, the irregularities in your pulse, just about everything wrong with you. All the details, tell me honestly uncle, are you dying?''
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
What was he to say? Technically he wouldn't be dead but for Asani he would be.
.
.
.
.
"Your highness, I have brought tea.''
''Out.''
It was the first time he had ever heard Asani mad, the servant seemed to agree as he stood with trembling limbs, unsure of what to do.
"Thank you, you can leave the tea here.
Please forgive my nephew he is just tired.
I apologize.''
''Then... I shall leave the two of you be.''
Bowing the servant left quickly, door closing behind him.
.
.
.
''That was rude and unbecoming off you.''
.
.
.
.
Silent treatment it was, still a child after all.
''It's true that I'm dying.''
''Why didn't you tell me?
I could've helped!
You should have let me do something, uncle.''
"Well you can't, it has been a know fact for almost a year.''
''I tried to look for something, anything even thought the doctor already said nothing would help. June mentioned you spitted blood occasionally, once I became aware I saw the signs.
How long?''
Keeping his tonque, he wondered if he was going the right way in this conversation. He didn't see an other way, if he had known his question would lead to this he wouldn't have bothered to ask.
"Tell me how long you have!!''
Seeing the anger rising, he looked more intently at the boy.
He was young, Acacius sometimes forgot, just months off age but that didn't equal maturity.
Especially as set as he was on their family bond.
"Barely a week.
But you will do great without me, the empire has no need for me when it is in your capable hands!.
You will be just fine, Asani.''
''I do not want to be just fine!''
Unable to speak at the harshly spoken words, Acacius looked away.
Maybe the situation reminded him to much of his mother's action as Asani calmed himself down.
Hearing him get him, Acacius wondered what the boy was going to do.
''Have some tea, uncle.''
Taking the tea, he drank till the bottom, hoping that it would wash away the tension between them.
{WARNINGGG!!!!
A soul locking medicine has been found.
You have minutes before you will be left unable to leave.
Please push this button.}
Tea cup smashed into the ground as soon as he read the text, the residued present leaking on the ground as he couldn't believe his eyes.
"What did you do?"
Asani looked quilty but only in his eyes. "June found Seriwen, Cyra's teacher, he knew what was wrong with you.
After that I started to look for something that would tether your soul to your body.
Mother helped me, that way you won't have to leave yet!
It would be painful but we would have each other.
You can watch our empire grow, see the statue I have made for you, right from besides me.''
What a twist of events and here he thought he could have a relaxed week before going back.
''Oh Asani, even if I am not here I would support you in everything.
You should have know better, one cannot escape death.
And if one could, it is most definitly not your decision to make, child.''
Stepping over the cup's shards he hugged the boy thight for what felt like endless seconds.
Notification turned alarmingly red, signaling it was time to go, he pushed it.
His mouth forming one last sentence as his body turned limp in the boy's grasp.
The last thing he felt was getting picked up and with a rush brought somewhere.
Voices started mixing, panicked and breathless, telling him he would be fine.
He had to be!
Accepting the darkness once more taking over him, he felt his soul leaving the body.
Asani's scream dimming as if world's away, until only silence was left
