"How could all of them get food poisoning in a single day?" Kafile, the newly appointed butler of the duke's mansion narrowed his eyes at the chef. 

The woman gulped and bowed her head.

"Do you think his majesty would care about your excuses? Ha! Let me tell you, if I pass this message to his majesty, you all will be executed." he warned, making everyone shudder. 

"Did the duchess leave her room?" he asked again, probing but everyone shook their heads. They did not see her leaving her room.

"Tsk! Then it is only your fault. You better be careful." he clicked his tongue and left the room. His eyes scanned the room but he did not find anything odd in the room.

When he left the room, he saw Ana standing on the stairs, holding the banister. Their eyes met and she smiled.

"I never knew butlers can smile on their master and meet their eyes." he went silent and then curtsied.
