I decided not to spare Felix a glance and focus on Dean instead. "The steak does sound good but the fish might be lighter to eat."
Felix scoffed so I half expected him to leave but he stood his ground. As much as I wanted to continue ignoring him, this day is not about me and I refuse to make myself be a spectacle. "I will be right back." I tapped Deans shoulder and spoke to him in a low voice. "If I am not back in 5 come get me."
The cocktail period was expected to be a little under an hour as the bride and groom got refreshed and also have a mini session with their photographer. I got up slyly and gave my parents a nod before I strutted ahead of him to the side wing where it was quiet.
Once the coast was clear I turned to him sternly. "You have two minutes." I did not want to drag it out incase people thought us meeting was something more than it was. "Ok first I need you to tell me if you will let what Sol did slide. My second question is more so about your relationship status right now."
His questions took me off guard. Well the second question did but the first one about Sol was expected. Our last conversation did not end well and further aggravated me when I remembered Dante knowing where I was and showing up uninvited.
"I am not petty. Sure I don't like you or Sol but my dislike is not based on vanity. Both of you have done things that are less than desirable to me. So my hatred for lack of a better word is valid. I am not going to waste my time on things I could not care less about."
He breathed out a sigh of relief as if I took a load off his shoulders. The slight pang in my heart took my by surprise. It hurt for him to act as if I was someone who would scheme in such a brazen way.
Sure I considered making them miserable but in the way that 'Look I am doing better than you cry about it!' kind of way rather than I will physically harm you way. Despite being with me for so many years, even when we were not dating, he knew nothing about the type of person I am.
As for the second thing. "Since when is it your business of my relationship status?" He crossed his arms and scoffed again. He got defensive even though he is asking ME invasive questions. "That Italian tycoon you you have been seeing and now being buddy buddy with Cortez. You have more game than I would expect."
I nearly slapped him. Just who the hell does he think he is. "The only reason I ask is because I need to know of you are taken so I can relay that to my mother. If Sol will be able to take my last name and have a part of my family fortune, my mother won't relent until you are no longer an option."
I was fuming. If steam could come out of my ears I am sure it would be piping fast. Before I could even retort Deans voice cut out quickly. It was icy and full of venom. "Aww does baby need mommy's permission? Do you have to ask her to let your balls drop so you can be a man? Just shut up for Gods sake."
Felix's face drained quickly before turning bright red in anger. "Her status has nothing to do with you, if you want to marry your woman then just do it, or are you scared to lose your inheritance. Does your little minx know that? That you have to ask your mother and ex to move on officially to her?"
He draped his jacket over my shoulders and began leading me out. "A dog does not need to reason with its owner. Just keep your mouth shut and tell your family to do the same. She might not care but I do. Trust that I rule with an iron fist and a cold heart. I am not afraid to deal someone their own personal brand of hell."
His words dripped with promise. He was fully serious. Dean did not wait for Felix to respond and took me back to our table. "Sorry princess I could not wait for two minutes. Just seeing you with that guy makes my skin crawl."
He shivered as if the mere thought could provoke a physical reaction. "Its alright you saved me from having to deal with assault charges. I don't understand where he gets the nerve from."
We sat back and thankfully the waiters took our order for dinner later as well as getting our drink orders to bring out now. Surprisingly the alcohol menu was stacked. They offered many wines and even had many mixed drinks as well aside from beers. They had straight shots available but it was reserved for later in the evening.
'Thats good, it would be too much if someone tried to pregame before the reception started.' I ended up trying a mixed fruity drink to start and work my way towards wine for later in the night. Dean got some Negroni to start as well.
My dad was about to order a beer when my mom stopped him mid order. "Just a water for him please." Once the waiter took Deans parents orders and left my mom chided him. "Honey aren't you forgetting that you are driving us back." My father laughed however, not insulted to be publicly chastised by his wife.
"Trust me I did not forget. My idea was to drink a bit now and by the time my lovely ladies are ready to go home I would be sober but it is fine. If it makes you more comfortable for me to wait then we can do that."
Deans father interjected at that point. "Oh are you driving back that late? I would have thought you would get a place closer." Estelle also jumped in. "Yes that seems so late to drive." Her hand fluttered to her chest, in a panic.
"Oh my family prefers to stay at home versus doing a hotel if we can avoid it. But we have driven that late before we have done some roadtrips before when Celeste was a baby and we did not want to do flights with her quite yet."
"Ahhhh I see. Why don't you-" Before his mother could finish, the MC for the night interrupted and loudly introduced the newly wedded couple.
