章節 22: Chapter 22:I was careless
Settling back in the chair, Adryan turned to face Grievius.
"I'm sorry Mr. Grievius but today I won't be able to take your classes today"
This made Grievius raise an eyebrow as he took a drag on his cigarette.
"If you couldn't take classes today, there was no need for you to come and tell me you could miss it and I wouldn't mind, I could be smoking without having to watch your ass."
This made Adryan chuckle slightly at the insult.
"Excuse me about that, Mr. Grievius, but I couldn't leave an old man alone all by himself"
When he said this, the two looked at each other and then laughed.
"You know brat you are the only one in the club who is capable of putting up with me so congratulations you are the least imbecile in this club"
"Maybe if you stopped provoking everyone you come across, you'd be nicer to be around."
Said with a quivering eyebrow, and they were in silence for a while before Grievius spoke with a serious tone.
"Tell me brat have you been noticing something curious around Backlund lately."
At the change in tone, Adryan's expression became serene and he saw that Grievius had become serious.
"If you mean all the murders, and deaths due to illness, yes I have noticed"
"It seems that you are not pure muscle, brat"
With his eyebrow twitching again Adryan added more.
"It seems that something very dark is happening in Backlund"
"You've hit the nail on the nose..."-taking a puff on his cigarette, he looked at the roof of the shooting range while he added something else.
"I feel like something big is coming and I don't think anyone is ready for it"- Grievius said it with depth and uncertainty
'You have no idea how right you are, Mr. Grievius.'
-thought Adryan looking at Grievius the redhead decided to change the subject before they got too dark.
"Mr. Grievius, do you have a job other than teaching at the shooting range?"
Adryan had this curiosity because Grievius was always at the shooting range and he wanted to remove this doubt for a while.
When he had said this, Grievius was taken aback by the question before giving a huge smile.
"Heh, I work in the Church God of Knowledge and Wisdom, you didn't expect that, did you?"-While saying this, he took out a book from his bag, showing that it was the holy bible of the church...
This caused Adryan's eyes to widen in shock as he looked at Grievius as if he had grown another head.
He quickly moved away from Grievius as he took out his revolver and pointed it at him.
"Don't be so nervous, brat, it's not necessary to get to that point"
But Grievius was just as calm as he continued to smoke.
But this didn't calm Adryan and he kept the revolver on Grievius the whole time.
"Are you a church beyonder?"
"And you keep showing that you're not just muscle, listen to me brat put down the gun, and let's talk like civilized people after all I never arrested you right?"
Thinking for a moment, Adryan kept the revolver in its holster but did not approach Grievius, he just stared at him very while he was close to the stairs to escape.
"Much better, look, brat. Wouldn't you like a job opportunity without having to worry about being arrested?" Grievius take out his cigarette and looked at Adryan.
"Are you asking me to join the church? But I am an illegal beyonder"
"Please do not compare us with the other churches, we of the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom do not judge illegals as long as they have not done anything serious and we even usually give them the opportunity to join us as long as they pass the inspections and you, Adryan, have been approved and have the opportunity to join our church"-When he finished saying this, Grievius took out another cigarette and lit it.
All this information was tearing Adryan's head to shreds, he thought that he managed to stay away from the churches' radar but it turns out that he was in the eyes of the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom all this time?
Adryan thought for a long time and gritting his teeth, he realized that he was in checkmate.
He was too stupid to think that he would be able to move under the noses of the churches as he grew stronger but it turns out that he was in the palm of one all this time.
He had been too arrogant and careless which led to this situation.
'At least I was lucky that it was the church of that dragon that ended up discovering me since if it was any other I would already be dead or in a cell being experimented on'
Giving a big sigh, the redhead just nodded at Grievius, which made him have a huge smile, and took the cigarette out of his mouth.
"Welcome to the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom Adryan Kenway"
When he finished saying that, he put the cigarette back in his mouth.
Then he moved to Adryan's side and patted his shoulder.
"Tomorrow I will take you to a good teacher from the church so that you can learn from him since I doubt you have much mystical knowledge"
Giving him one last pat on the shoulder, Grievius left the firing range, leaving only Adryan who stared at the ground for a while.
Adryan could only sigh and headed home.
While Adryan was in the public carriage on his way home just 40 minutes after he left the area a little boy appeared and started looking around.
Not finding what he was looking for, he frowned.
"Fate is too weird in here....." the boy then disappeared in the blink of an eye.
After another while, a man with long white hair appeared in the sky and looked around but couldn't find anything.
This one, too, had already disappeared in the blink of an eye, never realizing how close 'He' came to catching a certain snake and how the boy almost was caught without realizing it...
Adryan would never have known that he had almost put an end to the game of hide-and-seek that had been played for millennia...
When he got home after checking the traps, the redhead made his snack and sat at the table.
He simply stared at his food plate for a long time before eating.
The food had gotten cold...
