Adel’s POV.
‘Pup.’ Anara’s voice woke me up from the deep, dreamless sleep I had found myself in.
My eyes slowly opened. The sound of rushing water was so loud it almost hurt my ears, and my hair damply clung to my face. Two strong arms tightly held me against a chest so familiar to me.
‘Where are we?’ I asked my wolf.
‘He brought you out here, after…’
She didn’t need to finish her thought. The ache in my heart brought back everything that happened the night before. I closed my eyes against the pressure building in my eyes. I had cried so much my eyes were raw. I didn’t want to cry anymore. I didn’t want to grieve anymore.
‘I just wish I could have saved him,’ I whispered to Anara.
‘But you did… in a way my pup, you did. He died a different man than he lived.’
‘How so?’
‘In his final moment, Adel, he chose to be a better man than he had lived. He died selflessly…’ Anara answered.
‘Do you think the goddess will bless him?’ I asked Anara.
