章節 41: Chapter 41: Old Lovers and New Friends

Even before the mansion burned, Casey was not in the best of places. Now, even though smoke clogged her nostrils and her eyes burned, she had to find them someplace to rest and recuperate. She was hoping she knew what to do but that was a stretch, and a pretty big one at that.

She knew that Lavinia would not have told her to do it if she could have handled it herself. But Lavinia was in the back seat, curled in a blanket to protect herself. She wouldn’t be able to drive and she had been attacked.

If Casey was a betting woman, and she would hopefully never be, there would be people on watch for that person who had broken in.

Presumably, the same person who had started the fire.

No, this fell to Casey to handle.

An idea came to her, then. She had been driving aimlessly for almost twenty minutes, thinking, but this could certainly work.

She just hoped they were home. She wouldn’t be able to call, Casey couldn’t remember their number.

She sighed. It was better than nothing.
