Casey sat at the opposite end of the table from Lavinia. Or she would be if Lavinia wasn’t moving around to accommodate her.
It began with her pulling the chair out for Casey and doling out food for her. Lavinia had left the room briefly but she quickly returned carrying a multitude of drinks.
“Would you prefer wine? Water?” She put the drinks down on the table. “I also have things that younger people like.”
Younger people. Casey allowed herself a small smile at that..
Lavinia was talking very quickly and Casey could tell she was nervous.
She hefted a bottle of soda. “I don’t really drink these things but the man at the store said these were popular.” She had bought a standard rogue's gallery of carbonated drinks.
Casey studied Lavinia. “I’ll take the orange-flavored one.” She wouldn’t be drinking anything heavier than fructose corn syrup until Lavinia’s intentions were clear.
