Prom finally arrived. It signaled the school year’s end before finals and the seniors’ last hurrah. This also meant Andrew would leave for college in a few months. That thought made my heart ache.

You’re never faced with reality until it kicks you in the teeth. Dad had sage advice for me as I got ready for prom.

/"Bella, life will knock you down and kick the shit out of you. It’s what you do that makes the difference./"

/"I’m not sure how that helps with Andrew leaving, and I’ll still be in high school./"

/"Oh, that’s right. Never mind. How about there are other fishes in the sea?/"

I looked at him.

/"You never know./" He shrugged.

/"Dad, you’re not helping./"

/"Yeah, I’m having an off day today./" He sighed.

The doorbell ranged. I grabbed my clutch and kissed my dad as I walked by.
