章節 11: A Trap?

"It is nice, to play with you," she heard a smooth, silky voice, speak from beside her.

Bow placed in a resting position, Wednesday sat for a moment. Wondering what her "stalker" will do or say next.

Since "meeting" him, she had been consistently put on the back foot as he advanced forward with his game, a nagging feeling that she did not understand had made its presence known each time he was near. As if she were somehow connected to him and he to her.

She had attempted to learn of him, however she lacked far too much information, to do so effectively.

Even after her spirit friend informed her that it had heard of something similar, something that belonged to history, still she could find nothing, as of yet.

The limited time she had to scan the books in the academy's library turned up nothing.

She reasoned that he had to be an animal of some sort, due to the canines and eyes she saw when he transformed, however it was only a working theory made after hypothesizing that it could be a partial transformation, one in between his human and animal form.

She was incredibly tempted to just ask, the eerily silent, Vlad for information about what he knew, however this was her mystery to uncover, her "stalker" to solve, and her game to play.

Besides, she could not help but agree with him on one point, it is incredibly nice to play, especially when she was certain she would not stop until she won. She just had to figure out a way to switch her game from defense to offense.

She looked to the side to find him vanished. It was nothing new.

Just as she was about to get up, her roommate arrived, questioning her about how she managed to lug her cello through the window, so she introduced her to the walking appendage, Thing.

She had to admit, she was beginning to not mind the presence of the weird werewolf. It was a nice change of pace. compared to the other individual that barged into her life.

The werewolf was easy to be around. To know.

Perhaps, that is why, when the wolf confided in her her great shame at not being able to fully transform into a true werewolf, she did not feel adverse to confiding in her her own great shame.

The death of her scorpion, Nero, caused by the actions of mongrels who were determined to crush anything they did not understand, and the last time she allowed tears to fall from her eyes.

"Tears solved nothing," she informed the wolf, as she watched hers fall. Tears did not bring her scorpion back to life, nor punish those responsible for its death. Therefore, instead of tears, it is always better to take action.

She wondered if her stalker listened in, surprised to find that she felt no adverse feelings in letting him hear her confession of weakness.

She reasoned it had to do with the fact that she never truly knew when he was there, therefore it was better to continue doing whatever she did, despite her shadow. He would always have more information than her. His ability to move about unseen and unheard was too great an advantage to be nulled by simply choosing her words carefully. She reasoned that he could probably know just about everything that was happening in the school, if he chose, with that one ability alone.

It was incredibly broken.

Truly a worthy shadow indeed.

Only something that ridiculous could provide the greater challenge.

A challenge she would conquer and a shadow she would expose to light, if it were the last thing she did.

She had to admit, she was starting to like it here.

At the cafe, she learned, from the sheriff's threat, her father might have murdered someone when he attended school at Nevermore, that was definitely one mystery worth solving.

Someone had attempted to crush her with a statue and she had the feeling it was not the obvious choice. If someone who could appear anywhere, unknowingly, wanted to crush her, there were far more efficient ways to go about it. Besides, she had yet to feel like she was in danger when he was near. Therefore, a potential murderer to combat.

Lastly, her visions. They were growing more frequent and she still lacked control, perhaps that answer would be solved at her new school, as well.

However, she still refused to stay.

She would not prove her Mother right, therefore she contacted the boy she met at the cafe, who agreed to provide her passage from her prison.

She would escape, and if her stalker could not keep up, then he wasn't worthy of the position in the first place.

She hashed out a plan with the barista using a laptop, despite her aversion to all things technological, but desperate times demand the ability to adapt.

The barista, Tyler, agreed to transport her to the train station, for free. His reasoning being that at least one of them got to escape the dead, but not in the good way, town.

Perhaps a kindred spirit?

She had a plan, and that was always a good thing.

Now, she just had to execute it.

It had been too long since she had a nice picnic at Vlad's crypt.

While she had never been inside, just being near it gave her a feeling of belonging that she could not find anywhere else.

Though, she had to admit, she would miss the mystery the school provided.

Perhaps, her stalker could keep up?

If he was worthy enough to track her, she would have to consider asking Vlad to see if he could access his mind.

While it would feel like cheating since it wasn't her own ability, Vlad had haunted her mind for years. She earned the right to use a favor or two.

Besides, it would be her who led him there, so it could be considered leading him into a trap.

Yes, him following her into a trap, can be considered her victory over him.
