Pain rippled outward from Brynn’s wrists and neck. The thin silver chains felt like heavy weights against her skin. After an entire night of wearing them, the shock that came with every movement had worn off. Now, it was a dull, constant ache that washed through her bones and sapped her energy with every step she took.
At Anthony’s behest, she had been forced to the back of the group, and the band of travelers had been spaced so far apart that William was never in her line of sight.
She could feel him though, just as she had on those nights when she knew him only as the elusive sapphire eyes in the dark. His presence, felt through that invisible tether always drawing her to him, was her only comfort.
