章節 16: Chapter 16: Can We Be Friends

Nancy’s POV

My shaking hands hold the coffee cup as I look at my phone again, checking the time. The small popular coffee shop is empty except for me and the few workers behind the counter. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not. Probably good, since most of my discussions lately with Carter have ended in furious yelling and me storming away.

When Carter said he wanted to meet up today, I was hesitant. With how he’s been acting lately, I’m not getting my hopes up for a civil apology or an apology at all. I wonder if it’s even worth the energy to talk to him. But, it’s difficult to ignore him. He’s been the most constant person in my life since we met.

You can’t just shut someone out of your life that quickly and easily.

The smell of fresh coffee and pastries fill the air, calming my rattling nerves. This is neutral ground. There is no reason to stress. I glance at my phone once again right as the bell above the door rings. Looking up, I see Carter walking over to me.
