"What are we doing out this early?" I muttered, rubbing my eyes to hopefully get rid of unwanted sleep,
Both me and Khalid walked through the tall grass, the mountain dews splashing on our worn out trainer shoes, the sun was hardly out peaking over the horizon, the smell of rain and a dark gray sky adorned the landscape.
"This should be just right," Khalid muttered to himself before looking back to me,
We stopped in an empty patch in the forest void of all trees yet only surrounded by them, the grass danced with the little wind that blew that day yet everytime it did it was too cold to bear even with my jacket and scarf.
"First of all," He began, crossing his arms in a twinge of disappointment. "I checked your sets with my pokedex, and they were atrocious!"
He pointed at me as if I didn't know who he meant, though all he got in return was a look of confusion.
"Sets? What are those?" I asked, tilting my head to the side,
"You don't..know what sets are?" Khalid's hands shook with disbelief. He cleared his throat attempting to calm himself down. "Well listen here! Sets are the moves your pokemon currently uses and yours are beyond noobish!"
"How many badges you got?"
"Five," I responded instantly, he looked at me, his face growing even more in shock.
"Don't lie to me! This is a learning process, how many badges have you got?" Khalid's voice raised slightly, his hands on his hips now.
"Like I said before- you know what-" I sighed, showing him all the badges I had collected throughout my journey.
"You must have some crazy plot armor," Khalid coughed looking back at me.
"Ok, let's get things straight!" He declared, "First off all sets unless for some unique strat reasons should have at least one stab move that's special or physical according to the pokemon!"
"Your Zorua is a dark special attacker so you got that down with a dark pulse," He inhaled as if readying himself for something, "but why no coverage moves?"
"What you gonna do if a fighting pokemon comes along and starts to beat up your Zorua with close combat?!"
"I'll switch out and use the next pokemon!" I said with full confidence.
"Well, what if you have no other pokemon, Zorua's fast it's mostly used for hit and run tactics," He pointed out, looking at his pokedex. "The better set for your Zorua would be dark pulse, extrasensory, a set up move like a nasty plot if you want to do a set up set, or knock off otherwise but you can have them on the same set- hey are you listening?"
I scratched my head, confused as to what all of this meant. My head was frying at the second.
"You lost me at extrasensory-"
"Christ, ok dont worry we'll fix all of that- but first mind telling me something?" Khalid puts his pokedex away, taking quick glances from me to Zorua.
"Yeah?" I responded, a bit nervous about all this glaring.
"Why hasn't Zorua evolved yet? It's level 36. You used it in the pokemon gym right?"
I scratched my cheek nervously, looking off to the side.
"Well, he hasn't shown any signs of evolving so, I really don't know."
"Where did you even find this? Did you get it in Kanto?" Khalid asked, kneeling down to Zorua's level,
"I stole it from a team rocket grunt they were abusing it so," I replied.
Khalid sighed, looking up to me with furrowed eyebrows.
"So it's a defect then?"
"A defect?" I repeated, unsure if I heard him right or not.
"Yeah, so in short, in case you didn't know, team rocket experiments with alot of pokemon, the chance that this could be a team rocket defect means, it might never evolve."
_____________
"It's too dangerous, stay here ok?" A voice echoed through a dark abyss, soon painting an image, a man, his face cropped out of frame standing next to his charizard who looked back with a smile and a thumbs up.
Eevee watched as they departed to the cave, waving goodbye to them both, but no one said it would be permanent.
"Eevee!" It called out, after having enough, its eyes filled with worry and its tail down.
Though, no response.
Everyday it left, coming back to the same spot to wait, only leaving for food and water but soon, footsteps started to be heard from the cave, shaking the ground it stood on.
Deep growls came from it, a deep growling sound heard alerting the Eevee.
It stood guard its tail high up in the air from alert, it's guard and gaze softening when it saw what had happened to its friend, charizard's body, mutated and formed with rock lets out a loud cry that shook the forest, Pidgeys tried to escape from whatever chaos was about to unfold but Eevee ran to it's friend trying to get him to recognize it.
Though it was no use, it didn't seem to remember at all and they began to clash, soon Eevee was forced to leave, lying on a log, a decent part away from the cave, watching the pokemon he once called friend from the distance.
