“Lynn?” I asked, not quite recognizing her.

I hadn’t intended it to come out as a question, but I had to be sure. My ex and the mother of my firstborn looked like a ghoul from the grave.

“Didn’t you recognize me?” she asked, looking a little hurt.

“Are you okay?” I asked on instinct, probably answering her question, if indirectly.

“Never mind that, where is he?” she asked her voice more like a croak.

“Anthony?” she screamed, her volume coming back once more.

“What’s all the shouting?” Anthony asked coming down the stairs, Luke not far behind.

His reaction was much like mine at the first sight of Lynn. Whatever had happened on her way from Cleveland back to Boston, it hadn’t been a happy trip.

“You,” she said, like an accusation.

Powering right through, past me, and into the main hall, she rucked up on Anthony giving him a resounding slap.

“Guess I deserve that,” he said.
