For a trained killer, Luke was great with the kids, even Kevin seemed to warm up to him. Hope loved him but she tended to like everyone so there was no surprise there. She had yet to learn that there were dragons as well as princes, and if I had anything to say about it, it would be a long time before she did.

Despite her initial innocence, Livy was learning those lessons too, leaving me unsure of what to do. I still loved her with all my heart but was afraid of what she might do. Even Livy didn’t seem to know what she would do next, any trigger possibly setting her off, neither of us knowing what it might be.

It was why I opposed the idea of her going through combat training. The last thing I needed was for her to get even better at violence. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
