“Really?” Livy asked as if it was a trick.

“Yes,” I said, realizing we really were stronger together.

“You’d better not be fucking with me,” she warned.

“Never, not unless you call me Daddy.”

Livy laughed first, which made it easier to follow her lead. We’d been fighting about almost nothing which was silly indeed.

I wanted to protect her, to keep her safe, but it wasn’t up to me. She was a grown woman and had proven herself more than capable. With Jenny willing to watch the kids, there was no reason for her not to go too and a very good reason why she should.

It was her fight too, if she wanted to take it up.

I was used to being the master strategist, pulling the strings in all things, but it never hurt to have some help and an outside perspective. Especially from someone who I trusted as much as her.
