I wrangled the little ones, getting them almost ready to go. Kevin was no trouble at all, helping a lot with Ken and Hope. He was still a little boy himself but acted more like a third parent, really taking to the uncle role.

It had been about three months since what happened in Mexico with Bethany and Carl. At least that time they hadn’t escaped immediately.

Everyone was safe in their own way. Carl was safe in witness protection and had turned completely against Bethany, taking Uncle Anthony and Lynn. Bethany was safe behind bars, as were a lot of her lackeys.

Things had finally settled, in my own mind, so I felt like I could breathe again. The Diaz family was gone at least for the moment. After everything that had already happened, it was hard to relax entirely.
