章節 6: 6. Arrival

Getting out of a black jeep within the bounds of a building's walls, Valerian felt nostalgia hit like a punch to the gut. To his parents and the residents of that building, he had only been gone for a month.

But to him, it had been years since he had gazed at it.

His parents silently brought him through the gate, and he took note of the few details that had changed on the outside of the building his parents had.

They had returned to their real home in the time he was gone, and his eyes didn't miss the cameras that existed at the front door. The electric fence looked to have been updated as he could even hear the buzz from the electric charge.

The door looked different. He guessed it had been changed to something bulletproof as the glass window that used to be in the door was no more.

Walking up the porch brought back memories and he couldn't help but recall his dead brother. Unsurprisingly, however, he had stopped grieving.

The truth was he felt numb to most of his emotions. There was a clarity that came with his experience, but there was also a murkiness. Mostly also based on his emotions. They felt more under control than ever before.

That was a lot considering the fact that he already was good at keeping his feeling under his belt.

The doorbell rang and in less than a minute the sound of locks clicking reached the trio's ears and a girl appeared behind the door.

The young lady had blonde hair like Valerian as it ran in their family, but hers weren't completely brown as his. At the base of her long curvy hair were shades of brown.

The girl in question stood at a height of 5ft4 far shorter than Valerian. She seemed to have grown since he last saw her. The young lady resembled Valerian, as even her eye color was the same as his.

Before he could properly react to his younger sister's appearance, Valerian felt her jump into his embrace, and a series of protests from his dad and mom rang out at that point, but she didn't let go.

With warmth filling his mind, Valerian returned her tight embrace and felt glad to be back.

His mother tried to yank her off him claiming that he could still be weak, but she stopped when the sound of muffled sobbing reached their ears.

"Why are you crying?" Valerian spoke as if he didn't already know why. She didn't immediately reply since her emotions choked her but eventually did, and even more love for her filled him.

"We should have said something, but I didn't know what to say. I promise I'll stand up for you from now on. I don't care who it is they are. I'll protect you," her words drifted away as her tears continued.

Madison was only a 16-year-old girl, he hadn't expected much help from her, but her words still made him happy nonetheless.

A few seconds passed and the sound of running reached their ears.

A younger-looking version of Madison unfolded in their eyes, and she shot toward Valerian's figure still being embraced by Madison.

"Val!" the girl exclaimed tears filling her eyes.

The young girl couldn't even say anything as she burst into more profound tears in his embrace.

'I didn't know they valued me this much,' Valerian thought, sweeping his gaze on his parents and the scene of his crying sisters.

That event proved that humans only truly valued things when they ended up being lost.

"Don't cry anymore. I'm back. For good," He announced only feeling compassion. Yet he had the feeling he would not be capable of fulfilling his promise.

"I believe you should let your brother rest," his father's voice rang out at some point, and the two girls were forced to end their embrace, but they never left his hands.

Walking into the building caused even more nostalgia to fill Valerian's calm mind. He still recalled the layout of the building and furniture and they were still in the same position.

Upon entering, to the left was the kitchen and the dining table capable of fitting up to ten individuals.

To the right were five white couches and the large 50inch Tv they owned. The décor had changed a bit from an utterly blue wall to a white one.

The building had an upper floor, and the stairs that led to were directly in front of the door, and more of the building's space branched from that point.

"Your room has been cleaned," his mother informed him as he had already climbed the stairs and was on his way up.

Valerian limited himself to nodding his head while on his path, but his sisters didn't leave him still. They followed him up to his room and even entered it with him.

A few things had changed, but it still looked like he remembered.

"Can I have a moment alone?" Valerian spoke at some point, talking to his sisters.

The duo looked at each other before Madison let go.

"If you need me just call out." Her voice had stopped being shaky, but there was still worry in her tone.

"Sure thing," he responded laying his hand on her head. He had truly missed them.

"Lilia, let's go," Madison commanded the youngest of them and she was forced to let go of his hand, and tears even began to exit her eyes.

"It's okay, I'll only be alone for a few minutes. You don't have to cry," Valerian knelt before his youngest sister, and she nodded, cleaning her eyes and silently following Madison.

A sigh escaped his pink lips when the door closed behind the duo, and he swept his gaze on his surroundings.

He didn't know why or how, but ever since he stepped into their walled compound he had felt like he was being watched.

The feeling intensified now that he had been left alone and he felt prompted to speak up.

"Is anyone there?" He called out a tad bit uncertain. Truth be told he felt stupid and awkward doing that. But his embarrassment vanished when a feeling like never before filled his being.

It felt like energy, but also subtle. It was definitely out of the ordinary, and the figure that walked into the room confirmed it.

"It's you!" Valerian's emotions went out of control for the first time in a while.

"Yes, it is I." The familiar voice of the man or angel that had spoken to him that day filled the room.

"I have been sent to welcome you on your arrival. There are things that must soon be done."
