章節 104: Parasitic Corrupted
Hearing Sia's question, Mina remained silent for a moment before reporting everything to the former:
"We've cleared the wave here. Luna and that old guy should probably finish their part soon."
The silvery-white-haired elf nodded in understanding. Just as she was about to say something, two more people appeared where they were.
They were Luna and the middle-aged man named Jackson. The latter had his body covered with bruises and wounds while Luna remained relatively fine with some small scratches on her body.
[[Speak of the devil.]] Achilles and Sia spoke at the same time. Their eyes turned toward each other with amused glints.
Luna and the rest raised their eyebrows when seeing such interaction between the two, but they didn't say anything.
[Are you done?] Sia asked as she looked at Luna.
"I've finished my part, for now. But we need to kill the leader, otherwise, there would be no end to these endless waves." The latter commented with a tense expression.
While the two were still discussing, Achilles' attention was on a pair of eyes that was looking at him with killing intent.
He didn't turn to fully look at the woman and only glanced at her out of the corner of his eyes.
'It's the same lady I saw back on the street...'
Achilles was feeling apprehensive by the way this woman was looking at him. It was clear that the bob-cut lady had some sort of unfavorable opinion towards him, to say the least.
But his intuition was telling him that there was more to the story than that. He just couldn't figure out what it was exactly.
[Huh?] He suddenly sensed another group of Corrupted aura approaching, but there was something different about them this time.
The others seemed to have also noticed what was happening as they gazed over the horizon.
"Another wave's approaching." Jackson murmured with a scared expression.
"Yes, but...Something's wrong." Yuna stopped staring at Achilles and said slowly.
The horde in front of them, instead of animals and abominations, was all vegetation that had come to life.
There were flowers with thorny vines, evil treants with dangerous whips, and man-eating plants with razor-sharp teeth that were able to tear anything.
There were thousands upon thousands of different variations, but they all shared one similar trait.
'Why the fuck are these things so hideous?!' Achilles screamed in his mind as he tried his best not to look at the vegetation's faces.
[You all stay here and hold these things off. M-...Achilles and I will try to kill the leader.] Sia commanded as she gestured Achilles to follow her.
"You two alone? Aren't you too full of yourself?" Jackson asked with doubt and scorn.
[Is there any problem?]
"Whatever is commanding these things, it is sure as hell a thousand times more powerful than the rest!"
"Even for someone like you. How can you kill that monster?"
[...I-] Sia was about to say something, but Achilles cut her off: [We'll deal with it. No need for you to worry.]
"...Alright. Suit yourself." Jackson shrugged his shoulder as he summoned out his soul artifact.
[I trust you two.] Sia turned to Luna and Mina and said to the two girls, who nodded vigorously.
"You can leave it to us! We'll hold these things off until you come back."
"Yes. You don't need to worry."
Sia smiled at the two girls before disappearing from where she was. Achilles didn't leave immediately and made eye contact with Yuna, who was also staring back at him.
A second later, he left as well and the anger within Yuna subsided a little, but was still burning fervently.
'It's definitely him...' She thought to herself before summoning her greatsword, shifting her gaze to the horde.

[The leader is most likely some sort of parasitic creature.] Sia said while looking at Achilles.
[How come?] The latter asked while sneakily carrying both of them through the sea of monsters.
The Corrupted didn't pay attention to their existence thanks to Sia's "Darkness' Shroud" which helped them save a lot of time and effort.
[Didn't you notice how this horde's creatures were much stronger and smarter than their peers? Especially the high-rank ones like that Mother Spider.]
[You're right...then how are we going to kill a parasite?] Achilles dashed through a vegetation Corrupted while asking.
[...This thing can control a large number of monsters, so it must have something similar to a headquarter where it transmits every signal.]
[So we find this headquarter and destroy it?]
[On paper, yes that's what we do.] Sia said with a neutral expression.
Achilles sighed softly as he approached the metallic wall and reached beyond the city and soon entered the vast wilderness.
[There's a catch to it, isn't it?]
[Bingo! As expected of darling, you're as perceptive as usual.] Sia smiled wryly and gazed deep into the woods.
Achilles shook his head as a hint of nostalgia appeared on his face, but he quickly forgot about it.
At this point, the little elf continued in an anxious voice:
[The parasite must have some ways to mass infect other creatures, which means...]
[It can also infect us.] Achilles added.
[...Yes.]
[Any ideas on how to not get infected?] He asked as they headed closer to where the Leader's aura was.
[We have something that can create cold which would affect the parasite. But can't guarantee whether that would work or not.]
[...I guess we'll see.]
The couple soon arrived where the Corrupted's aura was radiating from. The sight before them made their eyes widen.
