NATALIE'S POV:
After all Maverick said, I was a bit relieved, he wasn't getting married to me for sex. I could even ask him for divorce after we got married. After all, he didn't want the marriage too.
"So, do you usually bring all your women here to buy their interests with ice cream?" I asked him.
"Why do you ask?" He looked at me directly into my eyes.
"Mmmmm..." I cleared my throat "you brought me here" I said.
The next thing he did was chuckle. "Why will you judge with that?" He asked me.
" I don't know, why shouldn't I? I'll be your wife soon"
"You are not my woman Natalie, and I don't bring women here, I came here alone when I wanted to. Plus, you are not my type. Don't forget I'm getting married to you under a contract, without the contract, we would have never met" He said. And just when I thought he was being nice at least, then next he drops some annoying lines. Those words were rude. I'm a very beautiful woman.
"Ooh, thank God, you are not my type either," I said to him to help my ego. I knew what I said didn't make sense to him or anyone, I already lost what mattered to me the most, which was law school.
I stayed quiet and ate my ice cream all along. I just wanted the wedding to be over. Then maybe after that, I could think about compromise. I unknowingly stared at his fingers, they were tiny hairs on them, they were so clean, slim, and long, he had two rings on two fingers each. His nails were well groomed too. His wristwatch looked big and very expensive. It annoyed me that he had such admirable features. If only I was in love with him, if only I had finished law school first, maybe the story would have sounded better marrying him.
My phone began to vibrate instantly jolting me from my thoughts back to real life.
"Hey" I answered almost in a whisper.
"I was calling to check on you," Abby said from the other side of the line.
"I'm fine, thanks. " I responded eyeing my plate of ice cream.
"Did you meet with Maverick?" She asked
"Yes, can I call you back?" If I continued the call, she would be forced to ask so many questions that I didn't want to answer in front of Maverick.
"Okay, bye, take care" Then she hung up.
Just then, a man with a camera came over to us and began taking photos of us. I almost forgot who I was sitting with, the popular tycoon whom the media wouldn't spare did they see anything catchy in his life. They must have thought we were a thing and that we were out on a date. The last news that was released about him with a woman was like a year ago, I read that while I was googling stuff about him. And I remember well, that story didn't end well.
Maverick turned his face around, then next he grabbed my hand and made a signal that I did the same. I covered my face slightly with my hand, but that was too late already, the photographer had taken his fill and left the venue. I would be on the news soon, that scared the shit out of me already, I didn't like all those public attention and stuff. I just wonder how these rich popular people managed their life, if I became a billionaire, no one would know me. I would just live a normal but very happy life. I guess soon, I'll be in the billionaire circle, but I won't have a private life still.
"Sorry about that, we can leave now," He said and called on the waiter to pay. When he came, Maverick dropped off some money on the waiter's hand. I was sure he tipped that waiter. Then we stood and left Nike Ice.

MAVERICK'S P.O.V
It was nice speaking to her, of course, I would have not said anything about me not wanting to get married to her, but I did because I thought she would at least say something helpful about why she did not want to get married. I was right, if we compromised our wants, we both would survive getting past the wedding, signing the marriage certificate, and getting married.
To think that my mom believes that getting me married again would make me happy, especially after being married before and getting my heart broken. Ruth was the sweetest woman I ever met before but she choose her career over me and ran off with one Indian dude. To date, I never set my eyes on her.
Then how will getting married again make me happy? The expression on her face when I asked her boyfriend? It was clear her reason was far from that. What I felt for Natalie was worry, she didn't deserve to be stuck with me, she didn't deserve a marriage she didn't have a say, and no woman deserves that.
It's just I wasn't born to be sad for the rest of my life. I would have chosen to remain single the rest of my life but, here I was getting ready to marry a young lady whom I didn't desire and who didn't want me all in the name of a contract. I never thought I would see the day I look forward to getting married again. I'd long buried that thought since in the mud.
I sighed in my seat and adjusted a bit. I checked the time, it was past noon. Past noon? How time flies. I was going to drop Natalie off at her house and head back to mine. As planned, I was going to work from home. Maybe I would call Maya to come over because we needed to go through some documents together.
'Dancing with the stranger' by Sam Smith played from the car speaker as Eric drove into the street leading to Natalie's house. Soon I could sight the walls fencing their building.
"You can at least take your mind off the wedding, thinking about it often won't do you any good, " I said to her. I didn't mean those words, I wasn't a person who would advise another, but I needed to tell her the truth. "Do what makes you happy at least till then" I added. She didn't respond, she just nodded her head and hopped out of the car when Eric made a stop in front of her house.
NATALIE'S P.O.V
It was kind of him to want to comfort him, I will give him the credit, he wasn't such a monster as I thought he was. Or maybe he was pretending.
I stood there and watched the black BMW turn around and zoom off. Only God would help me and keep me to not go sane before the wedding. Now, the rings were off the table. Next was my wedding gown, and that shopping was with my mom. If anyone had told me that I would go out shopping with my mom for a wedding dress to be married to a man I barely knew under a contract, I'd fight the person and deny all facts. But in real life, it was happening to me and I didn't have control over it.
I turned and walked into the house after the car drove out of the compound. I met my mom and brother in the sitting room when I walked in. Mom was crocheting and Andrew was on his phone.
"Good day mom" I greeted wanting to walk past.
" Welcome sweetie, don't you wanna sit with me for a while?" She asked pausing her work.
"No mom, I'm tired. We'll talk later" I said.
" Hey sis" Andrew who just realized I was there greeted still not raising his head from his phone. I left then, and wandered up to my room. I needed rest. I was also bent on taking Maverick's advice before the wedding.
