章節 3: Time To Grind!
"Whew!" Liam panted as he finally stopped and took a break on the side of the road ,"I should probably walk to save my strength.
He'd been running for about half an hour since he left the village and had covered quite a distance already. What bothered Liam was that he hadn't bumped into his friends even once along the way.
'Maybe they took a different path?' Liam thought to himself 'But anyway, I might as well learn some more about my class while I'm resting'
Liam extended his arm in front of him and said ,"Open menu"
A transparent blue screen appeared in front of him with a list of options.
"Now let's see...", said Liam as he went over the list ,"Stats, Inventory, Skills, Familiars, Inbox and Beastiary?"
He clicked on stats first.

"Wow, I didn't expect my stamina to be that high", said Liam in surprise ,"But I really need to get the rest of my stats higher soon"
Next he clicked on skills but was disappointed to find he had only one.

-Tame: capture any monster below half it's health as your familiar.

"Oh! Although it's only one skill, that's a pretty decent ability!" exclaimed Liam excitedly.
He decided to skip inventory and familiars since he figured they'd be empty. Instead, he clicked on Beastiary.

"Hmm...I see", Liam said thoughtfully ,"So it's basically a record book of the monsters I defeat. Right now it's empty cause I haven't defeated anything yet"
Finally, he clicked on the last option which was inbox. As soon as he clicked on it, Liam heard the sound of a bell as the system sent him a message.

"Oh, perfect timing!" said Liam as he stood up and looked around ,"I don't see anything around here. I guess my best bet is to head into a forest"
Liam slung his bag onto his back and started walking along the path again. He didn't walk that far before he spotted a cluster of trees in the distance.
At the the base of the trees, a group of blue slimes were wondering around. They were like little blue blobs of jelly, no bigger than a small dog. They bounced around lazily. Liam approached them slowly, crouching low behind the nearby trees.
'Alright, this should be close enough' he thought to himself as he unsheathed his sword.
Just as one of the slimes settled near his tree, he pounced, slicing at it with his sword. The blade cut threw the slime as if it were made of butter and the slime dissolved.
"What?! They go down in one hit?" said Liam in surprise. He had been hoping to simply weaken it and try to tame it but he was unlucky.
And his luck just got worse as the other slimes noticed him and quickly surrounded him. Liam cursed under his breath but raised his sword, watching out for the slimes' movements.
One of them leaped at him and he sliced it in half. However, another slime followed up behind him and jumped at him, hitting his torso.
"Ah!", Liam grunted in pain. For such a tiny creature, it sure packed a hit! He glanced at his HP.

'It deals that much damage?!' thought Liam in surprise. He raised his sword once more 'I have to handle this quickly or else I won't last long like this'
With that, he charged at the slimes, using his agility to his advantage and slashing them so fast that they didn't have time to regroup. His arms started to feel weak and his breathing got heavy, but Liam ignored his fatigue and pushed forward.
Soon, only one slime remained. Liam struggled to stay on his fit, sweat beaded all over his forehead. The slime was bouncing around him as if looking for a weak spot.
'I wonder how I can deal damage to it without killing it' thought Liam ,'Maybe if I smack it with the flat side of my blade?'
It was worth a shot. The slime leaped at him and Liam dodged before swinging his sword and smacking the slime.
The slime flew back and slammed into one of the trees, completely stunned. Not wasting any time, Liam rushed towards it and extended his hand.
"Tame!" said Liam.
The slime began to glow brightly for a moment before turning into tiny particles. The particles gathered together and flew to Liam's hand.

Liam let out a breath of relief as he allowed himself to fall onto the ground and relax. He glanced once again at his health.

"That was too close for comfort", said Liam ,"And my skill used up all my MP but it was worth it"
Liam sat up and opened his menu. He checked under his familiar option again and smiled when he saw the slime there.
"Alright!" said Liam.
At that moment, a notification from the system popped up.

-A command phrase is needed to summon your familiars. Enter command: ________]
"A command, huh?" said Liam thoughtfully ,"I should probably make it short and simple"
He raised his hand and typed in the words. The blue screen immediately vanished and he stood up, extending his hand out.
"Come out, slime" Liam chanted.
A magic circle appeared on the ground in front of him and a blue slime popped out. It faced him and just sat there as if waiting for orders.
"Awesome!" Liam pumped his fist in the air ,"I'm glad it doesn't require more MP to summon familiars. Hmm?"
Liam felt strange and he touched his chest in confusion. He could feel a rush of emotions welling up inside him that weren't his own.
Suddenly, another notification popped up in front of him.

The familiar, blue slime, desires a name: _____]
Liam looked at the slime curiously ,"Are these your emotions I'm feeling? Is this your desire to be named?"
As if in confirmation, the slime bounced even more. Liam laughed.
"Okay", said Liam as he typed a name into the system ,"How about Blu?"
He assumed the slime approved because the emotions he felt soon changed to happiness.
'That's settled then' Liam thought to himself 'Now time to claim my rewards'
He opened his menu, scrolling down to the Inbox. He went to the Beginner Quest and clicked on claim.
[Congratulations: You have successfully completed the Beginner Quest.

-5 stat points

-Familiar <Blu> has received the skill <Ingest>]
"Hold on, you have skills too?!" Liam exclaimed in astonishment as he quickly scrolled and clicked on his familiars option.

Liam tapped on the skills.

-Alternate Space: ability to swallow and store any material or object in a separate space. Objects to do not decay or corrode within the space. Number of slots available: 20]
"Whoa...", said Liam in admiration ,"Although they're just two, these skills are pretty busted. Hmm?"
Liam noticed something on his menu. Although he had already completed the Beginner Quest, it hadn't disappeared from the screen yet. Instead there was an option.

YES/NO?]
"Huh? I can do the quest all over again? In that case-", said Liam with a smile. He looked at Blu said ,"Lets go hunting, buddy!"
With that, he turned and entered the forest, Blu following close behind him.
