The tower was lit up on the inside by a blue light. As for the origin of that blue light, it came from chunks of iridescent crystals literally just embedded into the ceiling. There seemed to be some other mechanism that made them glow, but that wasn't something I was aware of.

Still, the light they gave off wasn't all that strong, which made the place seem more ominous than it actually was.
