Galen had the urge to smash his head against the counter, wondering how he could be so stupid for asking something like that about a likely departed lover.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, he silently told himself.

"Have you considered thinking before you say every thought that comes into your mind?" Ebari asked.

As much as Galen could irritate Ebari, he wouldn't ever do anything toward him because of Varya and he didn't technically have authority over imperial guards considering they worked directly for the emperor. He still, however, outranked them, so he wouldn't hold back from intimidating one of them.

"S-sorry, I didn't mean to disrespect your relationship in any way," Galen suddenly said. "I just kept remembering that tattooed guy and your parents not liking him…"

He stopped himself from speaking further because he knew he was digging himself into a hole even deeper than before.
