My head had screamed for me to walk away, to run away from him, but I stood still. My legs were suddenly stuck to the floor.

Alex stepped back in and I flinched. He walked up to me calmly, like a tiger grabbing my wrist tenderly and taking me before the large floor-to-ceiling mirror, as he stood behind me.

Alex was really bigger and taller than I am, he had this natural intimidating face that made most people sacred to speak to him. I was scared when I saw him for the first time but then I just wasn't scared anymore.

"Don't forget we're the perfect married couple, Hazel. If you play your part right who knows you'll be a step closer to seeing your mother." His eyes roamed around me from the mirror.
