Senior Amanda saw my dumbstruck look and flickered her fingers across my face. "I said to follow me" she repeated her order.
Excuse me senior Amanda, our third roommate is still in bed. Give us a minute to wake her up" Mia excused.
Senior Amanda, placing her second hand on her waist, she turned her gaze to Mia "Top student " she said.
"Excuse me?" Mia replied, even I was surprised.
" Top student Amanda" she corrected.
Oh, now I get. What's her problem ? Senior Eira was a fifth year top student and we call her senior Eira all the time.
What's with her who is even in fourth year fighting to be called top student?
I knew I never liked her right from the time she came along with senior Oliver on the orientation and she was so bossy and all.
I felt like I was seeing Mia as a senior in the future. The newbies would have a bossy senior at their disposal. I saw Mia's hidden frown before she gave a fake smile and rephrased " Oh, pardon me top student Amanda, please grace us a minute to wake our sleeping roommate" she finished.
Underlying her words were soldiers of sarcasm. Oh, this Mia !
Senior Amanda nodded and we both went back in making sure to shut the door against her.
"Did we do anything wrong?" I whispered to Mia and she shook her head.
"I'm not sure" she whispered back now tapping Mackenzie.
Mackenzie's eyes shot opened immediately. She had that deadly of gaze 'why did you disturb me' in her eyes.
I quickly put in before she would start arother outburst. "The school wants us" I told her
" No, senior Amanda wants us" Mia corrected.
I groaned before turning to her " Mia, it's the same thing. Senior Amanda came for us be cause the school wants us obviously"
"I dont know about that, don't make judgements without making sure "'Mia replied, turning to Mackenzie now " Get up, she's waiting out side" she concluded. Mackenzie stood up and we all went back to the door, opened it and joined senior Amanda outside who nodded after scanning us with her eyes.
Satisfied, she led the way and we folowed suit.
Some of the girls were still outside but the hall way was less crowded now.
We followed senior Amanda to the main building and Mackenzie spoke. " Where are you taking us senior?" she asked senior Amanda directly.
"You wil know when you get there" she replied without turning back.
" Why can you not tell us Now?" Mackenzie queried.
Senior Amanda out of the blue, stomped her leg on the floor in reciprocation to Mackenzie's queries. She turned to us looking like the wicked witch of the west.
"I said to follow me, then you follow me. No questions" she warned.
I and Mia almost pleaded and we were ready to move on when Mackenzie stood her ground and said in a calm but challenging manner " Then, I am going nowhere with you. I'm sure students have rights in this school, do they not?" her
expression was mild but her words were the opposite.
Mackenzie sounded like the librarian, harsh and fearless.
Even senior Amanda was taken aback. I guess this was the first time a newbie or any junior would speak to her in such a challenging way. " You don't want to start what you wouldn't be able to finish, would you?" she crumpled her brows and was
taking slow steps toward Mackenzie.
Mia rushed to stand in between them. " Top student Amanda, please forgive us. Our friend only just got her powers yesterday so she has been having issues maintaining her words and emotions" she lied to soften the senior's heart and plead on behalf of Mackenzie.
Since we got out of the curfew, I don't know what has been wrong with Mackenzie. She had been acting out of line, or was it way before?
Anyway, I think something must have happened to make her this way. All three of us needed to have an honest one on one conversation with one another, it was basically what we needed because I feel we are slowly falling out. Senior Amanda halted and looked at Mia for some moments before finally speaking. " This time, because it's the deans bid
I'm doing and he is probably waiting now. But after, when we cross paths again, expect me to teach you some morals and why juniors needed to respect seniors. We are not top students by mouth, it is our ability and hard work that made up top students, I will show you my dear" she tapped
Mackenzie lightly before walking on.
So, it was the dean all along. I knew the senior couldn't have wanted us for no reason or for evil reasons. I don't know what's going on with Mackenzie. I was seriously clueless about
her recent behaviors. I felt like some thing in her changed, I just hadn't wrapped my head around what it was.
Again, the probing pain in my head resurfaced and I had to hold my head and stop the deep thinking before it faded. I guess that was my brain reminding me it does not like to Process ambiguous information.
I and Mia gave Mackenzie scolding looks before following back the senior's lead.
Soon, we got to the dean's door and senior Amanda Knocked on it. We were coming here more than I thought. The dean already knew our names and faces even though we were
newbies. Oh lord, I never meant to cause trouble in the new school but the universe was hellbent on tagging me as an erring student.
I was only glad mama wasn't here, if it was the schools in the other dimension, the school authorities would have sent for
our parents and I, in the end would receive weeks of grounding and tongue lashes from mama. Not to mention the daily preaching and sermons on how to become a well mannered lady in order to marry a well nurtured gentleman.
My mama, she was a pain in the ass but I miss her. I missed being mama's little stubborn daughter again.
"Dean Androdes, it's Amanda" Senior Amanda shouted when the dean asked who it was that was by the door.
" Come on in right away Amanda'" Dean Androdes said from the inside and senior Amanda opened the door following his response.
We followed behind her and stood after offering our greetings to the dean. He was wearing a transparent silver prescription glasses
which had straps on it that encircled around the back of his head. " You can leave now Amanda, thanks for the hard work" he addressed the senior and she nodded with a bow before leaving.
Hard work huh? More like bitchy work, I thought.
"Tell it to the dean" Tovenaar whispered in my head but I ignored him. I was learning now, I was getting used to his disappearance and resurfaces. I could not scold him in front of the dean now.
Imagine I said ' shut up ! and the dean thought I was speaking to him? it would be too nasty. I didn't even wanted to play with that thought.
Dean Androdes bent his head and from the space under the ridge of his nose, he looked at us one by one before muttering " Young ladies"
We all stood unsure of what to say so we only glimpsed like hungry kittens.
"Ahem" dean Androdes coughed lightly and finally removed the glasses. He placed it on a book on his table and began to address us, " How many days of the purishment have you conducted?"
Oh, so it was all about the punishment. I almost felt like a looser thinking we had done something wrong. l only wanted to be summoned by the Dean to receive his praises and not scoldings. I knew I had disappointed him well enough. If at all
they hold a prize giving ceremony in the school, I think I would be given best in visiting the dean's office.
"Two sir" Mia replied then she wanted to explain on but the Dean held his hand out in the air to stop her. She saw his remark and halted.
Caressing his beard, his favorite thing to do I suppose. "I understand the virus led to the disruption in the balance of the school. it affected a whole lot but when the daily report got to me this morning, I was reminded you three have five
more days of pending punishment to fulfill" he concluded.
If i was to guess who was in charge of the daily report, without a doubt I would shout out All black's name. That wicked old kill joy
"Yes sir" Me and Mia chorused, Mackenzie remained silent. It was better she was quiet now. It would not be nice if she had one of her episodes again and challenge the Dean. that would be nasty too. I didn't even want to think of that too.
The Dean, after swirling his chair to a side like a little boy, nodded and laid out his instructions. "Tomorrow, after the funeral and class, please report to your assigned duty post and start from there till you conclude the rest of your punishment" he instructed.
"Sir, I'm sorry I can not do that" Mackenzie said to the amazement and disbelief of our ears.
"Mackenzie!" Mia yelled.
Dean Androcdes remained indifferent and held out his hand to Mia " Allow her speak, why is that..." he tried to say her name but he couldn't remember, I guess.
Mackenzie also with the numb expression on her empty eyes and face threw her hands to the back and stood at attention like a soldier saluting a comrade " Tomorrow will be the day the mind maze members would be tested, I'm afraid I need to be there sir. I cannot miss it, it is my dream to win
the trophy for the school " she inferred.
Wow, I never knew Mackenzie was so dedicated to the school.
Now I get what has been going on with her. In the other dimension, she suffered from getting recognition and now she was so devoted to winning the mind maze game that she
would do anything for it. I guess she wanted to prove herself by winning the game and getting the title of top student of the first year.
The dean's roaring laughter filled the office that was more like an apartment. It was the same laugh he gave when senior Eira had confronted all black boldly.
Ibthink he had a thing for courageous spirited students. They kind of seemed to amuse him and I think they were what the school needed.
" Yeah, not scared puppies like you and your four eyes friend " Tovenaar said in my head again. I think he was hiding in my head mainly to tease me and nothing more !
I clenched both my fists and bit my lower lip to suppress myself from shouting like an insane person right in the face of the dean
" What is your name young lady?" he asked Mackenzie. I guess she was one of his favorites now huh?
A creaking sound made us turn our necks to the direction of the sound to find Mia who had almost stumbled as the chair she was resting on shifted, making creaking sound as it dragged on the tiled floor.
"Mackenzie " she replied.
Dean Androdes nodded " Mackenzie, lovely. I will see to it that there would be no competition trainings tomorrow. Discipline comes first before anything else. I would give you the grace of tomorrow because I like people like you who are
capable of speaking out their minds and know what they want. You remind me of someone I know, I hope you win that trophy..Mackenzie" he said to her.
"Thank you" Mackenzie mumbled while staring down at her feet as if something was stuck on them.
" Now, young ladies you are excused" he spoke to us generally now.
We turned to leave then, we heard the sound of books falling.
Again, we returned to turn to him confused about what happened. There was a pile of books scattered on the floor.
What happened?
"Miss Clarke, can you help me with those" Dean Androdes asked politely.
Does he even need to ask?
"The others can go" he told Mia and Mackenzie.
The girls exited the office and I stood behind, bending to pick up the books on the floor.
"When will you be 18" I heard the dean's voice.
My hand that was about to pick up a book that was on the floor halted and I turned my gaze to him.
Was that why he pulled up the lame scheme? to ask me that?
"Six days to now dean Androdes" I replied.
I saw him pick up his glasses and return them back to their place on his nose and "l am looking forward to them. Do not disclose to anyone else when you obtain them. Make sure to come to me first, I told you about kellan right?" he asked.
Kellan, that was the name the man that was supposedly my father goes by.
"Yes, you did sir"
"I need to know if you are indeed Kellan's daughter. And if you are, then it is certain Ajax will come for you. But Ajax will be the least of your worries. However, I haven't heard anywhere in history that kellan had a daughter so be rest assured, Ajax might be mistaken" I heard him say.
kellan's daughter, Ajax.. I want none of it. And Ajax would be the least of my worries?
"Sir, what is so special about kellan and being his daughter?" I asked in wonder. My mind was in chaos now and my thoughts unstable. The dean reply was prompt " A lot " he whispered " Their species is of higher root than ours and their powers are unlimited when mastered. There will be forces wanting to acquire such persons. Do not forget and pay attention to magical ethics class. I will be watching " his first last words Sounded like threats or was it my ears?
From what I've gathered, no one is to be trusted and none of the persons in the school is innocent. The dean shouldn't act otherwise.
"It all might be a misunderstanding in the end Dean
Androcles. What if I'm just a normal girl? You did say a child across dimensions is an abomination " I reminded.
I hated that the dean was judging that I could be kellan's daughter, it was all because of Ajax! That psychotic spirit.
"If it happens that you're not Kellan's daughter, then I guess Ajax was indeed mistaken and you are just a normal magical student but if turned out to be that he was not, then miss Clarke, you are an abomination " Dean Androcles said Without
wavering, words that hit me like a slap on the face.
I picked up the book with desperation and tensed feeling. All I wanted to do right now was to get out of the dean's office and return to being a usual All supernatural college student.
I don't want the dramas.
