章節 89: Chapter 89

The next day the class was on a bus on the way to the spot there exam would be held.

The class was discussing strategies and trying to get out with the most class points possible.

Suddenly Syl smacked his palm. "Oh yeah! I totally forgot! Hey Horikita!" He called out across the bus.

She frowned. "What is it this time?"

"Ichinose said she wants to work together!"

"... what?"

"So I agreed!" Syl said happily.

Horikita clenched her fists in anger. "And you didn't consult with the rest of the class? Or bother to tell me because?"

Syl smiled. "Is anyone against working with Ichinose?"

The whole class shook their heads. In an exam where you had to face off against not only the other first years, but the second and third years as well, it was only natural that more help was better.

"Then there's no problem!" Syl laughed.

Horikita nearly threw her compass at him. What would she need to draw a circle for anyway?

"Alright, so what are we going to do?" Horikita asked in an icy tone.

Syl shrugged. "Ask Ichinose."

Horikita launched her compass at Syl and it hit him in the side.

"OW! What the fuck?!"

"Sorry, my hand slipped." Horikita replied simply.

"Bullshit! That was on purpose!"

Horikita didn't even bother responding.

Syl crossed his arms and pouted. "Does she think she's my mom or something?"

Suddenly a shoe flew through the air and hit him in the face. "Wha- Oh come on!" Syl cried out.

Kei giggled when she saw him. "That's karma for the snowball."

Syl nearly blew a fuse. "I am your cupid! That was a good deed!"

Kei's eyes went wide. He knew!

Then she traced her gaze back to Hirata.

"Actually, can I talk to you after the bus ride, Hirata."

Syl gasped. Was she really going to break up with him right now??

This is big news!

Huge drama!

The rest of the bus ride went smoothly and after they arrived Syl pulled Horikita to the side.

"Want to hear the actual strategy?"

Horikita paused. "I thought you didn't have one."

Syl smiled. "I just didn't want the whole class to know."

Horikita nodded and listened.

When Syl was finished.

"So, what do you think?"

Horikita nodded. "It's not bad, but I have one problem."

"What?"

"You can't expel Ibuki."

Syl jumped up. "What?! Why?!"

"She owes me a rematch."

Syl took a deep breath. "Please, just let me send that annoying toddler away."

"No."

"God damn tsunderes! Fuck this! Do what you want!" Syl stormed off.

Horikita furrowed her brow. "I'm not a tsundere."

"Yes you fucking are!" Syl screamed back.

Later on.

The grades were making small groups before they had to join up with bigger groups.

In the end the strategy was that classes D and B would form two kinds of groups, evenly split ones with all four classes, and groups with only D and B students in it.

In the end, it turned out like this.

Most groups were either split evenly.

A,B,C,D

Split between class B and D

B,D

Or predominantly class A or C students.

A

or

C

Syl ended up joining one of the groups with an even split.

He was grouped up with Ayanokoji (D), Yukimura (Keisei) (D), Koenji (D), Hashimoto (C), Yahiko (C), Ishizaki (A), Albert (A), Tokito (A), Moriyama (B), Sumida (B).

Now this might seem like a stacked group for class D, and it was.

But, Yukimura sucks at athletics, Koenji doesn't ever help the class, and Ayanokoji was 'average'. So really, from the class's perspective they were only losing out on Syl, but Horikita had given him the okay on joining this group, so no one else complained.

The idea was that they would put the worst students in the groups with four classes and stack the groups with only B and D with the best students.

That way on the groups that should be the worst they ideally should have to share the burden with the other classes.

Whether or not that would actually happen was another story, especially because they would have other years in their groups.

Anyway!

They eventually had to select a leader.

Nobody volunteered.

Syl raised his hand.

"So you're the leader?" Hashimoto asked.

Syl shook his head. "No, I was just gonna say let's do Eenie-meenie-miney-mo."

Everyone looked around and shrugged, eventually agreeing.

This is a real life thing you can do by the way, it's taking advantage of the herd mentality, if you're ever in a group then make sure you suggest something specific that you want. Nobody ever wants to be the person to say something first and they always just agree because they don't want to be the odd one out.

That's how you can lead a group into doing the things you want, just say something first and make sure it isn't stupid.

Anyway!

Syl took advantage of this phenomena and everyone agreed, not wanting to disrupt the group.

Well, everyone but Koenji, but he doesn't really count…

Anyway, Syl started going around the circle.

"Eenie-meenie-miney-mo-catch-a-tig-er-by-the-toe…" He continued pointing at different people. "Miney-mo." He ended up pointing at a specific person. "Alright, Tokito, you're the leader."

Tokito looked slightly upset, but nonetheless accepted the role.

It was only fair.

Right?

Anyway, eventually they had to pick a small group from the other years to join them.

They got 'lucky' and had Nagumo join their group.

Nagumo walked over and noticed that he was in a group with Syl. He smiled, then he also noticed Koenji was in the group.

"Have you all picked a leader yet?"

They nodded.

"I'm the leader, we chose fairly with everyone other than Koenji." Tokito said.

Nagumo chuckled. "So he's the group's problem child? It makes sense, considering his pl-"

"Who cares about him? Let's just win, he's only one person, how much can it hurt?" Syl interjected.

Nagumo was a little annoyed. "Well, I was going to say that he -"

Syl sighed. "Are you saying the student council president can't win without relying on a first year? That's a little disappointing honestly, why do you think we picked you? To come in last?"

Nagumo's eyebrow twitched. "I never said I couldn't win, this is my last chance to beat Horikita senpai."

"Then what's the issue?" Syl asked.

Nagumo sighed and smiled. "Nothing, I just thought you would be interested in your classmate's plan."

"I'm not." Syl replied simply.

"Are you sure? It's not a bad idea."

"I don't care, can you stop stalling and work with us on how we're going to win?" Syl asked.

Nagumo sighed. "Fine. But don't be surpri-"

"I won't be surprised, or angry, or anything else, let's just move on." Syl said.

The rest of the group nodded and agreed with Syl. I mean, why would they care what Koenji was doing?

Syl then rubbed his hands together. "So when are we hunting the bear?"

Everyone looked at him blankly, like he was an idiot.

"What?" Syl asked.

"We aren't going to hunt a bear." Nagumo replied.

"Bah! I picked a shitty group then!" Syl waved his hand and walked away, not participating anymore.

Ayanokoji sighed. 'He's really going to kill a bear, isn't he?'

Nagumo was dumbfounded. "Wasn't he the one who was trying to get started? Why is he leaving?"

Yukimura sighed. "You get used to it, he is somehow the least and most reliable person in the class at the same time."

Nagumo chuckled. "Well, let's get started."
