The owner welcomed me as I was walking inside the store.
"Welcome, what do you want young sir? I was just about to close our store," he asked.
"Sorry for the sudden intrusion. I would like to check if you have any books regarding Magic Circles?" I answered with a question.
"Follow me sir." the owner instructed. "Although we can't match the sects and academies with their number of scrolls and books, I can say that we have quality literature in store here."
He then pointed at a book rack. "These 5 books here are Magic Circle related. The <Arcane history>, <Arcane Language and Uses>, <Basic Magic Circles for Stupid people by Kernel>, <A Research about Magic Circle>, and <Effective Magic Circle Traps>. These 4 all came from known academies and sects or famous people."
"How much is the Arcane history book?" I asked curiously.
"This one doesn't really tell anything about Magic Circle. We only sell this for 10 gold. Are you fine with this young sir?" the owner answered.
"Really?" I was shocked by his pricing.
"Yes. This book is been here for like a decade now. Nobody seems to like it, saying that the history of the arcane is already taught to anyone who is into cultivation. It's nice that you took a liking to this one." the owner explained.
"Then how about this Basic Magic Circles for Stupid People?"
"That is kinda expensive as it was authored by a famous one. Kernel wrote a lot of books that help a lot of newbies in cultivation. You can even say that he is an indirect master of thousands of people. So this book cost around 5 ether stones." the owner declared.
So there is such a wonderful person that he is regarded as an indirect master. Then this book might be really good.
"Mister I'll take these two," I said as I handed him 5 ether stones and 10 gold coins.
"Thank you for your patronage!" the owner thanked.
I went out of the store carrying the two books I bought. When I reached the two they were already done eating and just sat there meditating. Maybe next year they'll reach the golden foundation.
Not wanting to disturb their meditation, I went ahead and ate my fill. As I was chewing the barbequed meat, I thought of asking Nullus about something.
Pulling out the antique bell and ringing it.
"That pie was godly Lorenzo you're doing a good job as an Avatar keep up the good work." Nullus Deus commended.
"I'm glad you liked it. Sir Nullus I would like to ask you about my cultivation. How much food do I need for you to help me reach the golden foundation?" I asked.
"I don't like the thought of having your fate in my hands. That would be a pain in the ass. How about this, if you reached the golden foundation and decides to cross over the 1st step of cultivation just ring me and I'll give you something." he negotiated.
"How about my cultivation then?"
"You can do it yourself. I already fixed you, that in itself is a boon. Alright now that I answered you, I'll be cutting you off. I'm still eating the remaining pie." Nullus break the communication off.
But my atman is just a regular one. Well, at least he would give me something. I need to work hard and not rely on other people too much.
With nothing to do, I opened the <Basic Magic Circles for Stupid people by Kernel>.
The first part talks about the rules of a magic circle.
There are two rules in making a magic circle and those are condition and contract.
<Condition> is the use of arcane text to communicate with entities, elements, and concepts. Arcane text is the common language used for communication with the 3 kinds of magnates. In <Condition>, the user will set up how the contract works. What will be the request? Who is the recipient? What will be the compensation? After answering the 3 questions you can now start to make your magic circle.
<Contract> is the next step after <Condition>. It is the activation of the magic circle. An exchange will happen between the user and the 3 kinds of magnates. If the magic circle activates that means the condition is justified and the sacrifice/offering/compensation is of equal value to the request. The contract is then fulfilled.
The second part is the types of activation.
In the book, there are 3 listed types of activation.
The first one is the <Invoke> type, which requires the user to chant the arcane text at an approximate distance of 10 meters away from the magic circle. This chanting will start the contract between the user and the 3 kinds of magnates.
Second one is <Trigger> type. This one is commonly used in traps. This type is an already established contract, but the conditions made it so that it will not activate right away. It is either step, touch, or other certain conditions that will make the magic circle activate. The philosophy behind this type of activation is that the 3 kinds of magnates will fulfill the contract, leaving behind their ability or power to perform what the magic circle requested in the written condition.
Lastly the <Arbiter> type. It is also an already established contract but has two or more magic circles connected to one another. One magic circle will be placed on things while an adhesive magic circle will be placed on a target. When the adhesive magic circle is placed, a connection is established. Any harm that's done to the object will afflict the target. This is the famous voodoo doll cursing activation.
The 3rd part of it talks about the types of a magic circle.
The types of magic circles are what a magic circle is able to generate and what are its uses.
Attack types are a magic circle that deals damage to an opponent.
Defend types are magic circles that prioritize protecting the user.
Control types are magic circles for stopping the movement of a target.
Transport types are for traveling to a distance
Assist types to help the user with a temporary increase of might, potential, regeneration, or ability
Cripple types are magic circles akin to a curse that temporarily remove the target's senses.
Communication types are the transmission of sound from one person to another receiver using two magic circles.
The last content talks about the different elements, entities, and concepts which are also called the 3 kinds of magnates.
The 3 kinds of magnates are your trading partners. It is basically paying for their service through an exchange that is happening within the magic circle.
The element magnates offer diversity and are also cheap on the lesser side, but the greater elements charge more than ever. If greater elements see your offering is a little off they won't accept the contract. There are 7 elements which are fire, metal, water, earth, air, ice, and wood.
Fire elements are purely attack based even using them as obstruction it will still likely cause damage. Metal and earth elements have 4 uses, to stab, guard, restrict, or fortify but with different effects. Water elements are helpful in water transportation, healing, and canceling movements. Air elements focus on flight transportation and attacks. Wood elements are better in healing and restricting. Ice elements are powerful when it comes to controlling, attacking, and cripple.
The concept magnates are the building blocks of reality. Concepts are considerate types of magnates. They rarely deny a contract because the offering is not enough, albeit they fairly serve your request equal to the price you offered.
If I remembered correctly, I offered the concept of soul and consciousness using the life of the 5 ducks as compensation. They gladly helped me even though the duration is lower. If I had the Arboar as the offering I might not be stuck with hungry man Nullus.
As the book stated, there are 8 available concept magnates that are happy to do business. They are sound, time, space, gravity, soul, light, dark, and energy. The concept magnates have preferences when making a type of magic circle.
Sound concept preferred communication and rarely does attacks. Time concept liked assist-type magic circles though they charge more than the others. It's worth the cost if you actually established a contract with it. Space concept is never ending and generous too, it likes transportation more than anything but also has its own magic circle called storage.
This storage magic circle is a different one. The user will actually buy a space of different sizes to the space concept. Place the magic circle inside an item, then the item can store many things inside as long as the space allows it. Also, the magic circle will not be erased and forever be engraved unto that item.
The gravity concept loves restricting.
Soul concept prefers assisting.
Light and Dark concepts like to blind anyone. They also assist with lighting something or hiding in the shadows.
The energy concept is the cruelest of the 8. It won't accept ether stones of any kind and would terminate the contract, even harming you in the process if you offer that item. As a concept of Energy, it doesn't need ether stone that is also part of the energy concept, doing so would be disrespecting it.
What it wants is something of importance like life, body parts, vitality, age, or anything that is part of living. When offered this kind of compensation, the energy concept will store away what was taken. It will reveal its cruelty hidden in the facade of benevolence.
The compensation that was taken can be returned in exchange for someone else life of equal value.
This weird exchange is chaotic and evil. That's why this is what most evil cultivators do.
The last magnates are the entities. The entities are basically gods that aren't patrons of any avatars but do business with the lower realms. They are also cheaper in asking for compensation, much cheaper than lesser elements.
These entity magnates are masters of their crafts.
Illusion magnate Memoir, is known for his control and cripple illusion magic circle.
Curses magnate Panini, is a menace in attacking, controlling, and crippling magic circle.
Senses magnate Ran Dam, solo's senses removal magic circle.
Healing magnate Haiou, is the best in healing magic circles.
Transformation magnate Tsan Jie, is known for his assist magic circles that improve bodily functions or reactions. He also had the self-variation magic circle just like the space magnate Storage magic circle. It is called the Transformation magic circle, where objects' substance can be transformed.
And with this, you can now finally make your own magic circle. Do it at your own cost. That is what the author said.
That's all the summary of the book. All and all it was well explained. Really, a book made for stupid people like me.
Now the next book I would check is this one.
Magic Circle I'll be using assist type to strengthen and expand my. . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . Horizons
