Those eyes were bloodshot, filled with uncontrollable madness and fear. Even though the gatekeeper's words had soothed the woman's spirit, bringing her back from the brink of collapse, the shadow of fear still lingered stubbornly in her mind.
Agatha had seen this look many times before, so she just calmly met the woman's gaze. After using her own to further calm the woman down, she finally spoke, "The 'he' you mentioned, you mean your husband, right? He returned home — but you know he died years ago."
The woman's shoulders shook violently. She hung her head and grasped her own hair, as if she dared not meet Agatha's gaze any longer, instead repeating over and over, "He came back... he came back... but I know that wasn't him..."
