章節 2: A New Purpose

[3rd POV]

The battle lasted for days and nights, as explosions rang for weeks. A land once known for its sublime nature was completely devastated, leaving a massive crater forever known as the place where two supreme beings clashed.

Laying in the middle of the crater, the two Pokemon glared at each other with hatred, both too injured to fight.  Deoxys's body was torn. Its core showed signs of cracks, and Deoxys have long lost the capability of fixing them.

Rayquaza wasn't any better as blood flowed freely from his large wounds. A part of his bottom jaw was missing, and he had lost his right arm.

The two Pokemon could not battle anymore, and realising this, Rayquaza took this chance to escape. Deoxys tried to chase after the dragon but immediately collapsed. It doesn't have the energy to stand.

Deoxys weakly reached towards the sky, but its hand crumbled into dust.

*Crack*

A sharp pain ran through Deoxys's chest, and the Pokemon understood that its life was reaching an end. Using its remaining arm, the alien dragged its heavy body across the dirt. Flipping over a rock, where the last final piece of its child lay motionlessly.

Deoxys was able to hide the last shard, and it was relieved that it was not caught up by the battle. With eyes full of regret, Deoxys settled beside its child.

*Crack*

The cracks ran deeper along the core, and Deoxys's pupils quivered. It has long lost the capability to form complex thoughts...

However, only one emotion lingered that dwells in Deoxys's heart. Regret...

*Crack*

The purple core split into two, and Deoxys's consciousness dwindled. Finally, after centuries of being alive, Deoxys passed away...

....

....

....

In an unknown realm, Deoxys regained its sentience. It was wary of the strange environment that it found itself in. However, no matter how far Deoxys spread its Psychic energy, there wasn't a single presence it could find.

After a deep contemplation, Deoxys rebuilt its body and stood up. The alien observed its surroundings, and the first thing that came to mind was its location, which has a profound resemblance to space.

Darkness spans all directions, with countless stars from various colours illuminating the void. Naturally, Deoxys would've admired this majestic scenery, but it felt empty...

Deoxys fell onto its knees and stared at the floor blankly. It no longer has any emotions left to spare. Deoxys realised that it had lost a sense of its personality, and a dangerous idea came to mind.

'Will dying again be so bad?'

Deoxys grasped its core and squeezed. The gem creaked under intense pressure, and the alien felt a suffocating pain. Eventually, unable to endure, Deoxys let go, and its hand hung loosely on the floor while letting out a self-deprecating laugh.

'It seems the fear of death remained...'

The laughs turned into sobs as Deoxys lay on the floor. The rage has vanished, and all that was left was an overwhelming sadness. While drowning in sorrow, a shining light appeared from behind, and Deoxys felt a comforting warmth.

Turning its head, the alien spotted a gigantic quadrupedal creature landing gracefully. It has white-grey fur and vertically striated patterns around its mane, tail, and face. Its hair was quite long, jutting away from its head.

'Child,' The being said softly: 'It's not your time to die yet.'

Deoxys silently stared at the figure. It observed its appearance and instantly grasped the creature's identity: 'Arceus, the God of Creation.'

'Yes,' Arceus nodded: 'And you're the youngling born through the miracle of the universe.'

'Young...' Deoxys repeated and chuckled: 'After living for decades, I don't consider myself a child...'

'And I have been alive for eons,' The Pokemon retorted: 'To me, you're just a fledgling.'

Deoxys didn't respond, and the two gazed silently at each other. Finally, the alien broke the silence and asked hoarsely, 'Why do I still exist? Do I still have to suffer in death?'

It interrogated the god with fury and despair. Typically, Deoxys's altitude wouldn't been highly disrespectful, but the Pokemon was too broken to care.

'Young one,' Arceus gently nuzzled against the depressed alien in comfort: 'Your purpose isn't something even I can answer. This question is something you have to find yourself.'

'But it's pointless,' Deoxys muttered: 'I have already lost everything and no longer have the will to continue.'

'Is that so...' Arceus hummed: 'Then I will give you a push.'

Deoxys detected a significant fluctuation in energy seeping into Arceus's body. He lifted his head and howled into the space as a bright light blinded the void. Gradually, the glow faded, and Deoxys froze.

In the air, floating was a glistening green shard. Arceus guided the fragment into Deoxys's palm, and the alien trembled: 'I... It was destroyed, how is it possible....'

'This is the most I can do,' Arceus explained as Deoxys looked at the god in confusion: 'I'm sorry, your child couldn't survive.'

'I see,' Deoxys mumbled, and the least amount of expectations disappeared: 'It was foolish of me to hope.'

Arceus watched the alien mourn and softly tapped Deoxys to get its attention: 'The pain of losing a loved one is unimaginable. But I can help you.'

Deoxys lowered its hand while clutching the gem tightly, not intending to let it escape its grasp. It turned to Arceus with suspicion: 'Why? You have no reason to assist me, and a god should not favour one being.'

However, one of Deoxys's most significant questions was that if Arceus wanted Deoxys's assistance, why keep its child in this state instead of fully healing it? Doubt and caution seeped into Deoxys's mind, and the alien watched Arceus's movement intently.

Sensing Deoxys's distrust, Arceus laughed: 'Yes, as a god, I should love all of my creations, but I'm not your god.'

The alien was stunned and stared at Arceus in disbelief: 'I... I don't understand...'

Arceus shook his head as if he had expected this kind of response. Pondering on how to answer, the god eventually returns Deoxys a question of its own: 'Do you know how you're born?'

Deeming the alien's silence as its answer, Arceus stood up and stomped on the floor. Instantly, their surroundings transformed, and the two found themselves in space with the Pokemon World orbiting behind them.

'As you may already know,' Arceus explained: 'You originated in space, and your core was formed within a soaring meteor.'

Suddenly, a significant cut materialises in the emptiness of the void and to Deoxys's shock, the area was torn open. Deoxys's body tensed as it could sense familiar energy emanating from the rupture as it emitted a bright pinkish light.

'Don't be afraid,' Arceus said with a tranquilising tone: 'We're merely viewing a scene from the past.'

Deoxys watched intently as a sizeable flaming boulder burst through the gash, leaving an orange trail descending into the Pokemon World.

'That...' Deoxys muttered.

'It's you,' Arceus nodded and confirmed its suspicion: 'Deoxys, you were never from this world.'

The news struck Deoxys like a freight train, turning its mind blank. Countless facts it thought would have known about itself were shattered, and numerous questions filled its mind.

Who am I?

How did I get here?

Am I truly a Pokemon?

Sharply, Deoxys turned its head and glared at the amused god: 'Explain,'

'As you may have guessed, there were multiple different worlds different from mine. Different gods or goddesses ruled over all of these worlds, and sometimes, those divine deities would interact with one another, such as forming connections or fighting. However, doing so will create a small tear in the universe as the two worlds intertwined with one another.'

'This phenomenon was brief and will be restored in a few seconds, but sometimes, things from one world travel to another in that narrow gap.'

'So,' Arceus glanced at Deoxys: 'When I was interacting with a goddess I know, your meteor subsequently appeared here, and that goddess's world's energy merged with mine, creating you....'

'Then what am I?' Deoxys asked hesitantly.

'A child from both worlds, a Pokemon but not one at the same time', Arceus answered truthfully: 'That's why it was so difficult to locate you until now...'

Deoxys's pupils shook, and the alien remained silent. Finally, it met Arceus's gaze: 'So what do you want from me? There must be a reason that you're telling me this.'

'My request was not so simple,' Arceus said, stomping at the dark space. A second tear appeared: 'I want you to return to that world and accomplish a task.'

'What task...' Deoxys asked with uneasiness.

'Bringing Pokemon to the other world,' Arceus declared.

Using his godly powers, Arceus generated a golden orb and handed the item to Deoxys: 'This will help you with your expenditure; use it wisely.'

'Stop, I have never even agreed to this,' Deoxys said with fluster as the orb was shoved into the alien's hand.

'But you want to save your child, don't you?' Arceus tilted its head: 'As I've said, despite being a god, I couldn't restore the health of the inhabitants of the other worlds; that seed I gave you contains the energy of this realm. You can use it to restore your child.'

'Wait...' Deoxys's pupils dilated and glared at Arceus menacingly: 'Why am I still alive?'

Based on Arceus's words, if Deoxys were also one from another universe, it would be impossible for the god to restore its body.

'The answer is simple,' Arceus said: 'Over my long-time connection with the Goddess, I was able to gather enough energy only to save you.'

'Save me....' Deoxys felt its anger rising: 'You must have known my opinion to that matter,'

'Yes,' Arceus nodded: 'You would've wanted me to revive the infant, but we both know why I didn't.'

Deoxys became silent and stared at the floor. It was forced to admit that picking Deoxys, who have an insurmountable strength and experience compared to choosing a new born to complete this task? Reviving Deoxys was the logical choice.

'There won't be people as accepting of foreign monsters as others,' Deoxys warned: 'There will be violence.'

'Of course,' Arceus admitted: 'However, it is ultimately you to decide how to accomplish this, through diplomacy or war. The choice is up to you.'

Deoxys stared at the orb and crystal fragment in its palm. If it accepts this mission, Deoxys will have the chance to revive its child; however, in doing so, there's a high chance that it would need to devote itself to a path of bloodshed.

'I will do it,' Deoxys responded.

As long as the child could survive, Deoxys would happily plunge itself into the sea of blood, and this time, the Pokemon would no longer be so gentle towards its adversary.

'Very well,' Arceus nodded: 'Good luck, the anomalous one, I pray that you will succeed.'

Without hesitation, Deoxys flew into the tear and began its journey, a journey towards a new life.
