章節 37: Hunt continues
One more building was visited but the owner was not found as if they had moved on to another location taking anything of value while leaving behind anything that would slow them down.
Upon searching the area, there were no fresh footprints or clues let behind to identify if the witch had left recently.
The knight had a frown on his face while he had his arms crossed over his chest. "Destroy the building and set up some traps in the area."
It was clear from his tone that he was annoyed that the witch was not in and had probably fled to somewhere else before they got there.
There was no clear evidence which could prove his suspicions that the witch had been warned before hand so he looked around at everyone while trying to hide his inner suspicions.
Bringing it up suddenly would only cause division within the group and that was the last thing he needed when there were still more to hunt.
He turned to his assistant and complained. "What a waste of time.. how far is it until the next target?"
While he did know the details and had read the map, his assistant was the one who had a better grasp on the navigation from one place to the next.
The assistant replied calmly. "If we rest up somewhere close by and set out early then it should take half a day to reach the next location if we have been able to rest up properly and restock our supplies."
The knight went silent and then nodded. "… fine then. What do you think about this place? Do you think the witch will come back?"
The assistant shook their head as they answered. "I think they may not be back since they seemed to leave in a hurry. If they do happen to come back then hopefully the traps will help delay or capture her so we can always come back to check the area once we have finished our duties."
Meanwhile Blush was handling some smaller chores further away and had been carefully watching the knight and his assistant.
Her gaze was like she knew something that others didn't and that she would not be revealing it anytime soon but she quickly concealed her emotions to not be noticed. 'I noticed it just now only slightly but now I know for sure that something is very strange here.'
There were already many things she had found suspicious but upon making a new discovery, the overall situation had become even more chaotic since it seemed like there were some hidden among the group with their own motives and secrets.
If she revealed it then there would be instant division among the group but it was not yet beneficial for her to do so.
Upon finding a place to stay for the night in a nearby town, everyone rested up and bought supplies for to continue on their journey in the morning.
While they all fell asleep, Blush slipped out of her room and transformed once again as she flew out of the window.
Her body flew over the trees, roads and streams until she finally arrived at her destination.
Another run down wooden house was on its own away from any towns or villages.
Anyone that knew witches knew that they lived a secluded life and they were easy to identify because they were usually social outcasts that rarely stayed in crowded places for long.
They only visited certain places to make money using their abilities or restock on supplies while some were more kind natured and chose to help others even when they faced discrimination.
Those identified had mainly been secluded witches who had stood out and tried to keep away from humans while there could have been some witches that were hiding among the humans.
Such witches were difficult to detect because they rarely exposed their abilities and they had learned to blend in with everyone so they could live a peaceful life without fear of being stoned, burnt or chased away by mobs of people as long as they remained hidden.
A strange energy surrounded the wooden house which Blush stood back to carefully study. 'Hmm.. this is not a protection barrier or a concealed space.. so what is it? Ah how interesting.'
Blush was very excited upon how the mana surrounding the house had been active and remained as it was while it was intended to be used for a specific purpose. "It has some similarities with my searching spell so is this a spell or some kind of formation which is triggered once a person crosses into it?"
A stone was thrown inside and passed through the energy which lingered around the area.
It seemed to trigger something then there was some noise coming from within the house as a witch had looked outside.
Upon seeing the result of her test, Blush smiled as she waved to the witch. "Greetings. I have some things to discuss with you so can you invite me inside?"
The energy in the area had been triggered by the stone which immediately notified the witch that something or someone had intruded onto the witches land.
It was less of a detection spell and more like one made for detecting intruders or for security purposes.
While there were certain things which seemed like magic or energy fluctuations, it did not seem to come from the things that Blush had learned or had known to be magic.
It seemed like it was a completely different branch of magic or another similar power.
The witch observed Blush for a while then took out a strange piece of paper and stuck it to their forehead which was a strange action.
The markings on the slip of paper looked like an eye which had been placed on her head.
The witch observed Blush from far away after completing those actions then reached inside of her house to grab something. "You dare to fool me.. demon!"
The witch grabbed a sword and several paper slips from near the door then charged towards Blush. "Begone foul demon!"
Blush was a little shocked that she had been seen through but she could only unsheathed her sword to block the incoming strike. 'What was that paper? Was it what helped her discover my real appearance? If so then it must reveal the truth or real appearance of me to her eyes. I guess that disguises and lies will probably be useless in front of her.'
Clash! Bang! Crash!
Blush deflected the sword with her own and stepped back to gain more distance but she was impressed with the witches strength. "Lady.. I am not a demon."
She decided to test her theory while in combat to check the strange abilities of the witch.
The witch paused for a moment upon detecting no lies or attempts to cover up her lies within her appearance but the witch found it strange considering that the two things were in direct conflict with each other. "You demon! So you can overcome my spell and can still lie to me so well! You cannot fool me! I can see your appearance clearly! I will prove it all!"
A couple of paper slips appeared in her other hand which were thrown towards Blush. "Begone demon!"
They scattered all over the area within the place where the security zone had been set up then the energy fluctuated while rushing to push something out.
The energy rushed into the body of Blush and she let out a smell moan as the energy seemed to have a gentle and cleansing effect on her body and mana which was the complete opposite to what she had felt in the demon realm as a baby or from the energy that was within her body for many years.
The energy passed through her but did her no harm so the witch was even more confused. "What is.. why are you not hurt? That should have at least been able to push you out and banish you from this area."
Blush revealed a relieved smile. 'So it was a type of attack tailored for demons.'
She looked over to the witch and sheathed her sword while removing her disguise. "It is pointless to continue fighting or concealing anything so there is no need for me to hide it anymore. While you can see that I am a demon.. I am only half a demon and half human. I have not inherited the same energy as the demons so will not be affected by such things. I have visited you for an important reason so can I come in?"
The witch continued to observe Blush then looked towards the weapons that were carried. "Leave those behind and come inside."
Blush let out a relieved sigh before placing her weapons aside and then entering the building.
Both Blush and the witch sat opposite each other while drinking a herbal tea in silence until Blush spoke up. "I assume that this herb is harmful to demons if it is consumed right? I told you that I am not a demon."
The witch continued to observe Blush carefully while checking if Blush felt any discomfort. "Hmm.."
Blush continued to finish the herbal tea quickly and showed a satisfied grin. "You have some good stuff! So refreshing and it has a positive effect on my body and magic power. For now though… we have much to discuss."
