Josiah sighed with relief. For some reason, he had been expecting something else. If he were to be honest, he felt Mila was more like a friend.

“Okay. As I said, I won’t force things.”

Mila frowned. “What about Rowan? He won’t listen to me.”

Grinning, Josiah patted her shoulder. “It’s okay, leave him to me. He’s got enough cold feet for all of us.”

A snort escaped Mila’s mouth. “Meaning?”

“There’s no way he’s going to force me to do something he has been postponing for months.”

Eyes wide, Mila covered her mouth and giggled. “He’s been postponing?”

Josiah nodded. “It’s like he knows she’s not the one but refuses to admit it since he chose her. I don’t know. Maybe he’d rather not learn to love his mate than ever risk losing her. He’s that kind of guy.”

Even now, Josiah could still remember when Mila’s eyes had lit up with a spark of hope.

Slipping out of his memories, he turned to look at the unconscious girl, pursing his lips. Silently, he prayed for her recovery.
