Ivan and I stood frozen in place, my heart pounding in my chest as the loud knocking on the door echoed through the room. Ivan glared at the door, his stormy grey eyes turning black like he could kill whosoever had dared to interrupt us. A pit of dread settled in my stomach as I realized the weight of the situation.

I quickly shoved Ivan away, feeling a whirlwind of emotions in my mind, fear and uncertainty. What if it was my maid at the door? What would she think of me caught in such a compromising position with the king? I wasn't stupid! I knew about Thea's not so secret mission.
