章節 10: Obedience

Late at night, Mia emerged in her garden, drawing a deep breath before venturing indoors. Upon entering the kitchen, an old woman greeted her cheerfully, "Greetings, Your Highness."

Mia arched an eyebrow, and the old lady chuckled, "I apologize. I meant greetings to my dear Mia."

A warm smile graced Mia's lips, "Ah, that's more like my sweet Grandma Wen. I'm utterly exhausted."

Mia went to her and hugged her tightly.

"Thank God you are finally back. I was really worried about you. The kids were also worried about you," the old lady said, her voice filled with genuine concern and relief.

Mia released her from the hug, concern etched on her face. "Are they both alright?"

"No need to worry, they are both fine, but Liana is a bit hurt. They ate their lunch and went back to their rooms. Oh, I forgot to mention, your Grandpa Wen is a bit sick. If I don't have anything else to do, I will go back," the old lady informed her.

"Okay, you can go back. Thank you for always helping us. If Grandpa's health worsens, let me take care of him," Mia offered sincerely.

"Oh, dear, he will recover soon; it's just that he's getting old. No matter what happens, you will always find both of us by your side. I've prepared some soup for you; drink it before it gets cold," Grandma Wen said, kissing Mia on the forehead before gently walking away.

Mia felt a surge of happiness. She sipped the warm soup, appreciating Grandma Wen's care, and then cleaned the bowl, grateful for the love surrounding her.

The siblings exchanged guilty glances, aware of their actions. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, followed by Mia's voice, "Liana."

Liana hastily lay down, covering herself with a blanket, while Cheng sat on a chair beside the bed, his head bowed and hands folded.

They both closed their eyes, feigning sleep, as if trying to escape the situation.

Mia gently opened the door and stepped inside, closing it behind her. She smiled, taking a seat at the corner of the bed.

"I never thought Cheng would sleep without his favorite pillow," she said, her tone light. "Both of you, enough pretending. You can't hide from me."

Reluctantly, they both opened their eyes, avoiding direct eye contact.

Mia looked at them sternly. "Don't you both have something to say?"

"Sorry, sister," they both muttered simultaneously, their voices filled with remorse.

They both approached her and enveloped her in a heartfelt embrace, and Mia reciprocated their hug.

"Sister, we are sorry. It's because of us that you got hurt," Cheng confessed, his voice heavy with regret.

"Sister, we promise never to disobey you again. We've already faced the consequences of our disobedience," Liana added earnestly.

Returning to their places, Mia gazed at them, her eyes brimming with emotion. "You both need to understand, if anything were to happen to either of you, I would never forgive myself. Dad's last wish was for me to protect both of you, and I made that promise."

Tears welled up in her eyes, and the twins hung their heads in guilt.

"Now, this time, I'll forgive you," Mia said, her voice firm. "But if something like this ever happens again, I won't be so lenient. You must obey me. Now, it's late at night; both of you should sleep. Liana, let me heal your wound."

Grateful smiles appeared on their faces as they nodded in understanding. Cheng returned to his room, and Mia proceeded to heal Liana's wound. She gave her a magical pill to relieve her pain and stayed with her until Liana fell asleep. Mia gently kissed her on the forehead before leaving the room.

Moving to Cheng's room, she found him already sleeping. Carefully, she covered him with the blanket and planted a tender kiss on his forehead. Quietly, she left his room and descended the stairs to her study. Immersed in her files, she worked diligently for hours, finishing her tasks. Stretching her arms, she yawned, glancing at the clock, realizing it was almost 2:00 am.

Stepping into the garden, Mia gazed up at the night sky. The darkness was punctuated by a handful of twinkling stars and a radiant moon.

"I wish for tomorrow to be a peaceful day," she whispered, a small smile gracing her lips.

Inhaling deeply, she turned away, the tranquility of the night lingering in her thoughts.

The following morning, Mia awoke with a yawn, rubbing her eyes as she glanced at the clock – 7:00 am.

"Oh no, I'm late!" she exclaimed, a hint of panic in her voice. She hurriedly made her way to the washroom, quickly brushing her teeth and taking a swift shower. After drying her hair, she tied it up neatly.

Rushing to the kitchen, she prepared breakfast and set it on the table. Just as she finished, Liana and Cheng entered the room, rubbing their eyes in the morning light.

"Good morning, Sister," they chimed in unison.

"Good morning, my dears. Hurry, come and have your breakfast," Mia said warmly.

They all sat down, enjoying the morning meal together. After breakfast, Mia instructed, "Put the dishes in the kitchen; I'll clean them later."

She then dressed for the day, choosing a white buttoned shirt paired with black trousers. Instead of a necktie, she wore a sleek black ribbon bow. Completing the look with black heels, she opted for minimal makeup, applying just a touch of lip balm. Her long hair was elegantly tied up in a ponytail, and she adorned her ears with simple black pearl earrings. Finally, she put on a black coat and a gleaming black watch, ready to face the day ahead.

While many might assume Mia shunned fashion, a closer look revealed her understated elegance. Swiftly grabbing her cell phone and wallet, she made her way to the study room.

Amidst the files on the table, she found what she needed and headed outside. A sleek black car awaited her, the chauffeur greeting her respectfully. "Good Morning, President," he said.

"Good Morning, Mr. Tao," she replied, returning the greeting. Mr. Tao opened the car door, allowing her to settle inside.

As the car glided towards the company, Mia's phone rang. It was Mr. De, her secretary.

"Good Morning, Mr. De," she answered, her tone calm.

Suddenly, her expression tensed. "What did you just say?" she demanded, her voice sharp.

"I have no other choice," Mia said, her voice resolute, after which she abruptly ended the call.

"Stop the car," she instructed, her tone firm, her eyes reflecting a mix of determination and concern.
