Brenna POV

With each swing, there was a loud cracking sound that reverberated through the bar. It was almost rhythmic, like a drum sounding the beat of a battle.

Layered behind the punches, I could hear the sounds of chairs scraping and voices shouting behind me, but I didn’t look back as I scaled down the bar and ran for the exit.

The sounds of a closed fist making contact with Kyle’s face behind me meant it was my chance to run, and I wasn’t about to stop and see who helped me.

I could hear myself screaming in my head, but it stopped short of leaving through my lips. The screams were there, but they were trapped inside me, trying desperately to get out.

My stomach sloshed as my feet pounded on the marble floor. The walls pulsed in time with my racing heart. Above me, the chandelier with the bright sphere no longer was shadowed as it had been on the night I arrived. The glow was too bright and I had to shield my eyes away in pain.
