Tonight Kevlar takes Naren out. It had been a long time since they last went out together. Both of them are busy making them rarely take the time except for work matters.
"What the hell, why did you ask me to hang out? I even canceled my date with Zarra for you." Naren said when the two met in a five-star hotel private lounge.
Naren who arrived first were ready with their favorite drink, a bottle of Bullshot which he poured as soon as Kevlar arrived.
"Think of it as celebrating the success of our project yesterday." Kevlar said.
"Oh yeah, I love this! Let's have a toast!" Naren was about to raise his glass high, but Kevlar's reaction made his hand hang in the air.
"I don't want to drink hard." Kevlar replied after Naren looked at him with a questioning look. Finally, Naren was forced to drink alone.
"Tsk, I thought my niece was lying when she said you were flirting with her best friend!" Naren grumbled
Kevlar smiled. He could already expect Tessa to tell Naren. But instead of responding, Kevlar prefers to call the waiter and order a glass of Blue Sky Punch.
"Then, what about your problems with Alea?" Naren continued, in his heart excited because of Kevlar's cool attitude.
"Still the same as you know." Kevlar replied curtly. A waiter came in with his order, and a smile on his face immediately greeted Kevlar who was waiting for him.
"So you haven't spoken to your family yet?" Naren investigate.
He felt like he was interrogating criminals with great enthusiasm, while those who were asked only answered briefly full of mystery.
Kevlar shook his head.
"I approached Quitta so that my family wouldn't force me to marry Alea."
"Quitta? You mean Tessa's friend you're close with?" Naren asked, feeling strange hearing that name.
Tessa does often tell him about her friends but he never fully listens. The kind of information that is just to be heard but doesn't enter her brain. And even though he had met and got acquainted with one of them, Naren never remembered her. So he felt strange when Kevlar mentioned that name.
Kevlar nodded.
Naren frowned. He looked at Kevlar with piercing eyes.
"I don't understand, why do you have to date another girl? Do you think your family would just cancel your wedding plans just because you're dating a high school girl?" asked Naren.
"Precisely because I'm dating a high school girl. If not, I'm sure they'll reject it and keep insisting I marry Alea."
"Wait! So you mean ... Ah, dammit! I see now. So you're purposely looking for high school girls to make your family melts?" Naren gets excited because he can guess his best friend's plan.
Kevlar is the eldest of two siblings. When he was in his second semester of college, his only sister, Retta, died of an illness. Retta died when she was in her last year of high school.
Kevlar's parents are not the type of parents who like to impose their will on their children. And about Kevlar and Alea's relationship, at first, they accepted Kevlar's decision to break off his engagement with Alea.
However, when Alea informed them that she was pregnant with Kevlar's child and it turned out that Kevlar had not officially broken up with Alea, her parents asked Kevlar to take responsibility.
Kevlar's fate is really unfortunate. Even though he is sure that the baby in Alea's womb is not his.
"But I think your method is too complicated. You just have to explain that Alea is cheating behind your back, that's all! No need to drag other people into your troubles."
Kevlar looks at Naren annoyed. After years of friendship, Naren has never changed.
"Always insensitive!" Kevlar cursed inwardly, or could he be overreacting?
"You don't know my mom." Kevlar said flatly.
Naren downed his drink. He felt annoyed at Kevlar but also felt sorry for his relationship with Alea which had more or less hurt his best friend.
And although he currently objected to Kevlar's plans, he had no choice but to see what would happen next.
"Do you think the girl will be okay?" asked Naren after a few minutes of silence, he worried about Quitta. After all the girl was only used as bait, it was painful if the girl didn't know the truth. Unless Kevlar hired him to do the job, that way he could be better prepared for whatever was to come.
Kevlar frowned, looking at Naren as if mocking him.
"Or maybe she's just a paid girl you hired to be your girlfriend?" guess Naren.
"What the hell are you talking about!" said Kevlar with an annoyed expression.
Naren chuckled, regretting that he had come here if all his words were always refuted.
"I mean that Quitta you said earlier, is she a paid girl or not?" Naren asked no less annoyed.
"Of course not!" replied Kevlar.
"Then does she know that you already have a fiancé?" continued Naren to which Kevlar answered with a shake of his head.
"What if she finds out you're engaged and it turns out that you're just using her to get rid of your fiance?"
Kevlar didn't answer Naren's question.
"Unless he's a psycho, I'm sure he's more hurt because you dragged her into your troubles and lied to her."
Kevlar is stunned. It wasn't Naren's words that touched him, he just felt confused about his feelings. He didn't want and didn't mean to take advantage of Quitta, but he didn't want to just walk away from her either.
What happened to him?
"Do you believe in love at first sight?" asked Kevlar suddenly, which made Naren frown in confusion because he felt Kevlar's question was off-topic.
"I'm also not sure if it's love, but the few times I see it makes me even more unable to turn away from her." Kevlar said with a dreamy mind.
"What are you talking about?" asked Naren, getting annoyed to see his best friend's behavior.
Kevlar turned his body in the opposite direction avoiding Naren's gaze who seemed to be stripping him.
Naren didn't bother him anymore. To kill the loneliness because Kevlar was more interested in seeing the abstract painting in the room, Naren took out his cellphone and called someone who had been close to him for several weeks.
The sound of laughter and affectionate calls that came out of Naren's mouth caught Kevlar's attention.
"Who is she?" He asked, interrupting Naren's conversation.
Naren didn't immediately answer Kevlar's question, then a minute later he hung up the phone with a happy expression.
"What did you ask?" Naren had almost forgotten that Kevlar had stopped looking at him.
"Who's she?" repeated Kevlar.
"Zarra, she works at the embassy."
"Wasn't it yesterday you were on a date with Feli?"
Kevlar's question was answered by Naren with a loud laugh.
"Do you think I'm desperate to date a cat?"
Kevlar frowned and didn't understand Naren's words.
"Feli is my neighbor's cat. She likes to play at home, and everyone at home is close to her."
Seeing Kevlar's response who feeling cheated, Naren laughed even harder even though Kevlar felt a goiter. He was satisfied that Kevlar had annoyed him first.
