When Adrianna wakes up, it is already six in the morning. She raises her hand to reach for her phone on the side table and turns off its alarm. Then Adrianna lazily sits on the bed and stretches her arms. She even yawns before shaking her head a little from left to right to completely wake herself up.
She can see the sunrise behind the blinding curtains on the glass wall. Garret really knows how to choose a good place to build his company. His company building is directly getting all the sunlight every morning. The yellowish-orange rays of sunlight are giving her a relaxing mood this early in the morning.
Putting the blanket on the side, Adrianna stands up and walks straight to the bathroom. Garret's room inside his company is almost similar to an expensive apartment. Adrianna washes her face first before brushing her teeth. In the sink, Adrianna's personal belongings such as a toothbrush and facial soap are fortunately still there. After she freshens up, Adrianna returns to bed and drops herself on the soft mattress on it.
Seeing that the chair she put on the door did not move even an inch, it means Garret didn't try to enter this room and maybe he is still busy with his work. Adrianna really finds it funny herself. She is treating that guy like a thief when he is the rightful owner of all the things inside of this building. In this place, she is the one that can be regarded as an intruder.
But Garret has a strong opinion about it. If she really dares to say these things in front of him, Adrianna knows that he will just tell her that she also owns the things that he has right now. Whether it is a simple cup of coffee or his personal assets, Garret will not hesitate to tell her that she also owns it.
It is really making her head itch in anger sometimes. How can he easily say those words? This company was built because of his perseverance, efforts, patience, and intelligence. Adrianna knows very well that Garret secretly regards his business as something that he can be proud of.
If only she's not a decent woman, who knows if Garret will still be the big boss of this huge company if Adrianna decides to rob it right in front of his eyes. Although she mostly regards herself as crazy and troublesome, she is still in her right mind not to covet the things that don't belong to her. No wonder people don't believe her when she tells them they had broken up a year ago. They will always treat their so-called break-up as a lover's quarrel.
Well, maybe it is also their fault why people are not taking them seriously. Most of the time, either exes don't want to meet again, they are awkward with each other or they will maintain a civil relationship. But Adrianna and Garret are different. After they broke up, they just returned to their former status as best friends.
Or rather, it was Garret who insisted on them becoming friends again. Adrianna is supposed to be living in abroad now if not for Garret's pleading words. He promised to be a good friend to her just like before. But in exchange, he doesn't want her to go to a place where he cannot see her again.
With Adrianna's family background, she can easily hide in a foreign country and blocks Garret's access to find or contact her. At that time, Adrianna also doesn't want to leave. It was her father's idea to send her abroad as a punishment for angering him too much. But since Garret promised her that he is willing to change and let them go back as friends, then Adrianna agreed with him and she coaxed her father not to send her abroad anymore.
Since then, their relationship started to become abnormal for them. People still view them as a couple. But as for Adrianna and Garret, they are not passing the invisible barrier they set in between them. Though lately, Adrianna noticed that Garret is getting more touchy with her again. Maybe she needs to remind him again that they are now just friends and not in a relationship.
With nothing else to do, Adrianna turns off the airplane mode on her phone. As soon as her phone received a signal, her inbox was bombarded with messages from her dad. Adrianna smiles wryly to herself when she reads the content of his messages.
At first, he was really mad that she made a scene and embarrassed her date last night. He even threatened to cut all of her credit cards if she will not show up herself in an instant. But his anger morphed into worry and asked her to go home safe. In his last message, he reminded her to send a message and let him know that she was safe.
Adrianna is not that hard-headed when it comes to her father. Although he is called a man with an iron fist in the business world, he is still the same softie father in her eyes. With a smile, Adrianna types a message to him and quickly sends it.
'Dad, I'm safe. I stayed in one of my friend's rooms. Please don't worry too much. I will see you later, okay? I love you~!'
After sending it, Adrianna is surprised that her dad read immediately seen her message. Instead of giving her an essay-type of response, her dad just sent her an eye-rolling emoji. It makes her laugh and feel giddy inside. If her father is now using the emojis she taught him a few months ago to reply to her messages, it means he is no longer mad at her. Her dad is just going to listen to her explanation later.
Since she knows that her dad is no longer mad at her, Adrianna happily surfs the internet for a while. But soon, a chatbox appears on her screen. It was Garret.
'Are you awake now?'
'Yup! I sleep well like a baby!'
'It's good to hear. Want me to call someone to bring you breakfast?'
'I'm good. I can just go to a cafe nearby later. Are you still working?'
'Yes. Our conference meeting got extended because these people are so stupid when it comes to their work.'
'Don't be too harsh on them. And since you're still working, stop messaging me and concentrate on your meeting.'
'Alright. See you in a bit.'
Before Adrianna can close her messaging app, another message appears on her screen again.
'Hey, bitch. You're still alive?'
Adrianna can't help but shake her head seeing that message.
'Hey, Alexandrite! Long time no talk, huh?'
'The nerve! I told you to call me Alex. A-L-E-X! Gosh. You're making my head hurt early in the morning.'
Tried of typing her response, Adrianna directly calls her friend while laughing. When she answers it, Adrianna is still laughing that the person on the other line and sarcastically responds to her.
(Ha-ha. Very funny, Adrianna.)
"Yeah, it is." Adrianna agreed with a smile.
The person she's talking with right now is one of her close friends, Alex. She is one of her classmates in college and they still have a good relationship until now. But because of their busy schedules lately, they rarely have time to see each other.
(Whatever. Where are you now?)
"Why? Do you miss me that much?"
Adrianna can imagine Alex rolling her eyes right now.
(Yeah, sure. I miss the desserts you make and I am craving for something sweet right now.)
"Aww. You only miss my desserts and not me?"
(Just be glad that I still have something to miss about you. Psh. But where are you now?)
"Oh. I'm in Garret's company."
(You visited him this early?)
"Huh? No. I slept in his room since I visited him last night and I was lazy to go back to my own place."
Alex did not respond to her immediately. But soon, Adrianna heard her friend let out a sigh.
"Alex?"
(...If I didn't know the truth that you are not really in a relationship, I will also believe that you two had never broken up.)
Now it is Adrianna's turn to sigh.
(Why did you decide to break up with him a year ago again?)
"Because I thought he is too possessive of me." Adrianna casually responds.
(Oh.)
Right. Adrianna broke up with Garret because she feels so restrained during their relationship. Garret was too possessive of her that he wants to be with her all the time. Although Adrianna can understand his feelings, he should also know how to respect her wishes just like how she respected his opinions. Adrianna genuinely likes Garret. But feelings alone are not enough for their relationship to work out.
