Vanessa returned exhausted and hurting in places she didn't know she could hurt. Her muscles were taut and all twisted in knots.

She noticed that as the days were going by she stress threshold was decreasing, and despite how hard she tried to push herself, or try to expend the same amount of energy she once did before becoming pregnant, she just couldn't do it.

It felt like a torrent of her energy had been taken away from her. If this was how she felt barely at the third month, just how then would she feel at the sixth or ninth month? She couldn't imagine it.

That imagination was something she didn't want to indulge at the moment, because she was certain all she'd get from it would be fear and worry, and those two were the last things she needed —because they reeled in the alertness of her decision, and that also was something she didn't want.
