Trouble was the last thing Alex wanted over a kiss, but troubled was all he was as he sat across the desk of his private study with sheafs of paper strewn around, begging to be attended to by him, but instead of doing the only thing he had dedicated all his life and time to, he had his eyes fixed on the clock wondering where the hell Vanessa was and when she'd return.

Did she go house hunting? That was the only thing he could think of.

Just like she had requested he returned without her, and despite not having an excuse for returning home early, he had driven back home to keep Sophia company — as if that was really what he was doing at the moment.

Since Vanessa walked out of his office this morning with stiff shoulders looking like the boulder she was going to place between them from henceforth, he had struggled to keep his thoughts straight.
