Alex wasn't sure at what point he realized what he had done, but the moment he did, he slowly pulled away from Vanessa, who had turned rigid with shock.

His heart thumped in his ear as his eyes lowered to her face, and it thumped even harder when he registered the bewildering look etched on her face as she stared wide-eyed at him.

Alex couldn't understand what had just happened. He was utterly dumbfounded himself.

"I.." His mouth opened and closed right back. Alex felt like he was in a daze. He couldn't understand what just happened, so how could he articulate it? Did he... did he just kiss her?

His heart skipped another beat at the realization that he had done exactly that.

The sound of his voice slightly stirred Vanessa out of her stupified state as she blinked once and again; her lips were still parted as she yet blinked again.

"I... I'm sorry," Alex stutteringly apologized.
