For some reason, the night critters' numbers slowly dwindled until they stopped coming altogether, and the sun and moon started showing up in the sky.

Some thought the Court of Nevernight was weakening, but Lord Kieran thought otherwise. The fact that his older brother had managed to force the world into eternal twilight for the past two years meant that Killian's power and influence were unmatched.
