The menu for the gotcha had an empty sky. There were ten stars standing for the ten tickets that Clark had gotten as a gift from the system. These were the things that would form in to whatever the system created for him. Devi moved and floated above Clark's shoulder. It was interested in what would happen. It could not see the same things as Clark but knew that Clark would show him something great. The soft laughter was not at all fear inducing for Clark, he found it endearing and warm.
"Draw!" Clark shouted slightly to try and spur his luck. He watched as the stars began to shine brighter. Slowly shapes formed in the air and began to fall. A soft sparkle around them as if they had just fallen from the heavens in to his room.
'The host has used ten tickets to draw from the gotcha. As the first time drawing the host has received a guaranteed rare item.'
'Ghostly mask- common
Holds the unique ability to hide the host's identity and match the host's spirit beast partner.
Ghostly cloak- common
Matches the ghostly mask allowing the user to better hide away in misty, dusty, and dark areas
Ghostly pants-common…
Ghostly gloves-common…'
The items were all clothing. It seemed that the first few pulls had been lucky to get a full common attire with some spares. It would be perfect for wandering around in the future outside of the city walls. He was going to be a spirit tamer. If he reached the top it would be inevitable that he faced challenges and cruel people. It was wise to have a way to hide who he was. But what fully attracted his attention was a little sphere with black and white smoke inside it.
'Small spirit orb- rare
This is an orb possessing the soul of a weak wild beast. It is rare for the core of a beast to house its soul and not only its power. This makes it an ideal material to assist the growth of ghost type or undead type beasts.'
"It's the perfect snack for you Devi, have at it!" While Devi swallowed the small spirit orb, Clark watched as a fog developed around him. Devi grew slightly and had a few more visible details. It could almost be said that Devi might have some hair on his head and instead of the dark black hole like eyes there was more golden light within them.
Since Devi was finishing the absorption, Clark moved to store away the clothing for when he would need it. He grabbed the basic storage ring that everyone had. They were given to all citizens and were able to hold just the basics. A spirit tamer would receive a larger one that could hold beasts they hunted in the wild along with materials. These rings also functioned as identification and could only be looked in to by those with proper authority and the very person they belonged to. It was a great way to help the citizens and the governing lord of the city. It showed the prosperity of Aerial.
Running through everything again and again let Clark fully understand the system he had gained along with the new partner he had never been able to see. The echoing laughter would torment an opponent and confuse them. While the invisibility would let Devi get close and use the chilling bite.
In the grand scheme of things, chilling bite didn't seem to be a skill that actually used Ice. Instead, it would drain the vitality of the opponent bitten. It would help Devi get stronger but also weaken the opponent more and more making it easier to tame, capture, and defeat to acquire beast cores and more soul energy to feed Devi.
Once Devi was ready Clark motioned for Devi to become invisible. The two headed out the door leaving a simple note for his parents. Clark was too excited to get to the examination and become a real licensed spirit tamer. From there he could enter the beast tamer academy as a student to graduate in higher specific education after four years.
The streets were dying down and mostly empty. It was the end of the day and soon to be night. But it was easier for Clark to run through them to his destination. Normally he would dwell on the shops and learn more about the world. He had to fill his mind with the most relevant knowledge to stay ahead for when the system unlocked. Now that he had it he could finally pursue his real goals and live a bit more free. He could pursue the dream that had been born when he awoke in this new world of endless possibility.
The building for the tamers was split for the experienced tamers to speak to staff about jobs and other such subjects, while the other half was for younger learning tamers. This was also the spot where Clark was headed for a test. As soon as Clark pushed the door open he found that there were only a few people sitting around. Most of them were waiting for their specific job which required them to be out at night or resting after returning from a job escorting merchants to another city. The night was less busy because the city didn't have many reasons to employ large numbers of tamers, unlike other cities that had beasts that became active at night around them.
"Ha, look at the kid. He must think he's old enough to be a tamer already. He'll need a little more muscle to face wild beasts."
"You know that school let out today for them to come and take a test, right, idiot?" There were two tamers sitting with some drinks after their day that started to bicker back and forth after Clark walked in.
"Welcome, Welcome. You're here a little late but we have staff here all hours. Should I take it that you are here to test to get a tamer's license?" The younger woman at the counter was wearing a uniform different from the other staff but Clark was too excited to even notice.
"You're exactly right. I hope that an examiner is available to test my combat ability. I can have my ring scanned for grades as well." Clark quickly tapped his ring on the rune engraved metal plate in front of him. The staff member read through things showing a surprised expression.
"Then follow me, your grades speak for themselves. I hope you can put your best foot forward tonight. But you know you need your spirit beasts with you for this, right? I will also have you fill out the paperwork after your examination." Clark just nodded and made a motion to follow. The staff member still led him behind the counter a little confused since she didn't see Clark's tamed beast anywhere. But she managed to shrug it off thinking it might be a dwelling type spirit beast that lived within Clark's body. It was not unusual for that to be the case.
