The sun had completely set, and day turned to night, yet Kalea seemed reluctant to move from her spot. Her gaze was empty, too tired to cry anymore. It was hard to explain how she felt—whether her decision was right or wrong—but she simply couldn't leave Kai alone.

"He'll forget me soon. Go back to being Arthur the womanizer," she muttered softly.

"Lea!"

The familiar voice made her turn to its source. Kai was there, looking out of breath and full of worry. He walked closer until he was right in front of her.

Kai was startled to see Kalea up close; her swollen eyes and messy appearance were obvious. "Hey, are you okay? Why are you here?"

Kalea let Kai cup her face, managing only a weak smile as she replied, "I'm fine. How did you know I was here?"

"Because you weren't home. Did you have a fight with Mr. Jefferson? Did he hurt you?" Kai's question made her chest tighten again.
