"You could have died" Conrad told her again.

Defiance wanted to care but it was very difficult to care when she was freezing to death.

She rubbed her palm together to generate heat and she nodded at the sight of her purebred boyfriend struggling with what could be the beginning of genuine tears. She had no idea he was capable of tears.

Conrad stood there…frozen.

There were different kinds of fear. The sharp, the dull, the fiery and the delayed panic. Conrad hated the last one because it was like a promise to come. It was the worst kind because knowing it was coming does nothing to prepare him to face it, it does nothing but only leave him with dread and anticipation in its wake.
