Kraig was sullen, waiting for the visitors—that is, Amanda and family—next to Kendrick. Once he was engaged, Bernard intended to declare a date for Kraig to become Alpha.

"I think you're big enough for this and I'm already old and I want to rest." Bernard spoke in Kraig's ear as he leaned forward slightly.

"I'm just getting engaged, Dad." Kraig said and the word 'engaged' came out more disgusted than ever from his lips.

Bernard wasn't stupid and he knew Kraig didn't like Amanda that way. However, the fact that his son was apparently coming to his senses, choosing the good of the pack over his own, already indicated to Bernard that the boy was almost ready.
