章節 51: Ch 51: Lord Sathanas

A raven led Baldeur down the hall. He wrapped himself in shadow and spells as an image of him stepped into the room.

The grand doors to the real throne room were wide open.

Scattered around the room were piles of coins in various metals. Weapon racks contained armanets of different types that held the gleam of magic. Numerous open and closed chests revealed other valuables contained within.

On a massive throne carved from black obsidian sat a tall figure with pale red skin, two faded and chipped horns, and a gray beard that was somewhere between groomed and unkempt.

Lord Sathanos was looking to one side of the hall where a few illusional windows hung. They showed what was happening in another throne room similar to this one without the opulence.

In that other throne room a man similar to the one on this throne sat with a more human looking demon next to him. A group of people that Baldeur recognized as his companions were entering the hall prepared to fight.

All but Derbail looked to be in good shape. Derbail was pale and barely standing. Bright phoenix flames wrapped around her body providing energy.

"It's a pity that Veneris wasn't born on Tartarus. She is a decent manipulator, a bit unrefined but she has no real challenge on this world. Tell me, has your city connected to my home yet?" Lord Sathanos said.

"There's way too many gates for me to know where they all go." Baldeur responded.

"Oh you'd know as your pathetic rulers would learn their place. But I am not there so it's possible that the usurpers wouldn't be up to the challenge of conquering Rsus AlVart." He said.

Baldeur controlled his surprise that the old Demon Lord would refer to the City of Gates by that name. It was the fabled city of the first Demon Lords where the sins were said to have been forged.

The illusion windows were showing a stalemate in the fighting as the one posing as Lord Sathanos was using spells embedded into the walls of the throne room. Baldeur hoped he didn't have to deal with similar spells.

"Well, let's get this over with. I have yearned for the day that I would be able to destroy that so-called prophecy about my demise." Lord Sathanos said.

Baldeur began to raise his staff when he had to exert all his efforts to jump to the side. A blade of darkness slashed past him filled with wrath and despair.

Lord Sathanos stood up slowly and raised his hand. With two fingers pointed out, he lowered his hand and another blade of darkness flew through the hall.

Prepared for the attack a burst of light hit the blade slowing it down enough for Baldeur to dodge.

The image of Baldeur wavered and he thought his subterfuge would be found out, but Lord Sathanos was barely paying attention to him as he lazily watched the illusionary windows that showed the other throne room.

Leveling his staff at the Demon Lord's head, a burst of Ice Spears shot forth.

A shield of gluttony and greed appeared before Sathanos and absorbed and dispersed the attack.

Baldeur began to hum a Hymn of Challenge to influence his enemy to come forward and face him in combat.

"Hahaha, you think such weak provocation can take hold of me. I will show you how flawed you are." As he slowly stepped forward Sathanos released a Charm powered by lust and enforced by pride to force Baldeur into obedience.

"Kneel!" He commanded.

Once again Baldeur thought that the Demon Lord would see through his projected mind. But his limited talent to project his mind held out.

Still he caused his image to quiver and slowly bend down.

"Die." Sathanos began to flick his wrist as Baldeur rolled past him.

The staff passed through the Demon Lord's knee causing a frost burn.

Turning to face his enemy, Sathanos swiped his clawed hand down as Baldeur dodged.

Again and again the sharp claws slashed through the air unable to make contact.

Lord Sathanos had already used a bit of his source energy and with how hard it was to keep himself filled he didn't want to waste anymore than he already had. But he wanted to end this.

A wave of sloth hit the Baldeur before Sathanos, causing his form to slow. He then assaulted the psychic energy in his view with ingratitude. It was meant to make him unable to realize the threat of the attacks coming towards him.

And as his claws went through the Baldeur before his eyes he felt he had succeeded.

Then he felt the blade held by the real stealthed Baldeur pierce his back.

This second implement that Baldeur had created with Laksulm released blades of telekinetic energy empowered by Qi and imbued with greed for life force.

Lord Sathanos stumbled forward as he pulled himself off the blade and coughed up blood.

"So, one of your kind still exists. The enemies of all existence. Reality truly despises you." Knowing that his wound would require too much energy Lord Sathanos stopped holding back the march of time and his body began to age rapidly.

This gave him a clarity he hadn't had for a few centuries. If he wasn't so weak from source degradation and from keeping himself alive through sheer pride he would have noticed the subtle influence his daughter had been placing on him over the years.

Her spell had inflated his sin of vanity. Losing one self to your sins was a risk that more powerful users of Infernius have. That blinded him to the weak spots in Baldeur's illusion spell.

Baldeur stepped back in defense and shock as he didn't really think his plan would go this far.

"Let me be reality's instrument and erase your existence alongside mine." Lord Sathanos didn't even turn to face Baldeur.

With greed and wrath he controlled the weapons in the room to fly towards Baldeur.

With his staff and sword in hand Baldeur dodged and blocked the projectiles. A sixth circle Mana Shield provided by his mother's scroll also glowed around him but these weapons were empowered by a peak demon.

Fire and ice created by Anodular flew out of the staff to deflect weapons while telekinetic blades accompanied by sloth left the sword, pushing and slowing them.

Singing a hymn of regeneration the wounds that Baldeur was accumulating were kept from becoming too serious.

"ARGHHHH!" Lord Sathanos screamed as a wave of coins flew towards Baldeur.

Using most of his Qi, Baldeur moved back out of the way at a speed that tore his leg muscles. His movement would be severely reduced for a few moments until he could use Divinus to heal them.

Lucky that had been Sathanos' last ditch effort. The Demon Lord flung a few more blades of darkness, but the power behind them was pathetic and easily blocked.

Had he not been suffering from centuries of source degradation he would have been able to fight like this for days.

"I hope you take care of my daughter long enough for her to betray you too." Sathanos fell to the ground as life left him.

Not taking any chances, Baldeur quickly beheaded him.
