"Grandma…" said Joy as she walked into the kitchen as Margaret was washing the dishes.
"Sweetie, what's wrong?" asked Margaret as she turned around and she dried her wet hands with a red cloth nearby as Joy walked over to her.
"Are you alright Sweetie?" asked Margaret with a smile as she carried Joy in her arms, she was starting to have some grey hairs on her head.
"No" said Joy as she shook her head, she was not alright at all, but she did not want to talk to anyone.
"Whatever is the matter sweetie?" asked Margaret as she wondered what was making her precious granddaughter this sad, she was always so happy.
She had tried to ask Joy what made her so sad earlier, but Joy said nothing, so Margaret decided not to push it any more, she was sure that her granddaughter would speak to her when she was ready.
"You don't want to tell me do you?" asked Margaret as Joy did not reply to her.
"Are you hungry?" asked Margaret as Joy shook her head, they had just finished eating dinner, but she could be hungry again.
"Do you want more desert?" asked Margaret as Joy shook her head no.
"Do you want some chocolates?" asked Margaret as she was running out of ideas, and to worry, Joy shook her head no once again.
"Sweetie, please tell me what is wrong" said Margaret as she was starting to get worried, Joy had been this way all morning, and seemed depressed, and that was alarming, Margaret had never seen her always joyful granddaughter like this, it worried her to death, and the worst thing was that her Granddaughter would not tell her what was bothering her.
"Does your tummy hurt?" asked Margaret and Joy shook her head and she buried herself in her Grandmother's neck.
"Oh my darling" said Margaret as she was surprised by Joy's actions, she could tell that her granddaughter was suffering and yet she did not know why, it hurt her so much.
"Darling, don't be sad" said Margaret as she tried to coax Joy, and she walked out of the dining room into the living room and she sat on the little brown armchair with Joy still clinging onto her.
"It's alright my darling, everything will be okay" said Margaret as she ran her hand through Joy's black curly hair.
Joy started to cry as she made muffled sounds, and Margaret was even more worried, she could not tell what was wrong, and Joy wouldn't tell her, she needed to talk to Dom to ask what happened? Because Lia just dropped Joy off here in the morning and she had not seen Dom all day.
"My Darling, don't cry" said Margaret as Joy raised her head and Margaret positioned Joy to sit on her lap as she wiped away Joy's tears.
"Whatever is making you sad my darling, you know that you can tell me" said Margaret In a sweet, gentle voice as she ran her hand through Joy's hair.
"Do you want to tell me what's wrong?" asked Margaret as she smiled and Joy shook her head no.
"That's alright my darling" said Margaret as she smiled, she was never one to force anyone to do what they didn't want to do.
Joy just looked at her grandmother with her big tear filled eyes as she rested her head on her Grandmother's chest.
"Oh darling, my angel, everything will be okay" said Margaret as she smiled, whatever happened for her granddaughter to act like this, had to be very serious.
"Should I sing for you?" asked Margaret as she smiled, Joy was getting very heavy, she was already ten, she was no longer the little girl that she could conveniently carry on her lag, but regardless, Margaret could tell that Joy needed her right now, so she would be there.
"I must warn you though my darling, I have a horrible voice" said Margaret as she laughed after Joy nodded her head.
"How about I hum for you instead?" asked Margaret as she smiled and Joy nodded her head, Margaret smiled, humming would be better, she was sure her precious grandbaby would not like to hear her horrible voice.
"Hmm, hmmm, hmmm" said Margaret as she smiled and she hummed as she rubbed Joy's back as she did so.
Ernest Jr walked into the living room as he looked surprised and Margaret quickly put her finger to her mouth as she made a shushing sound, her Granddaughter had finally fallen asleep, and she did not want her to wake up.
"What's wrong with Joy?" asked Ernest Jr as his voice was laced with concern as he whispered.
"She's not herself, and I don't know why" said Margaret as she whispered back.
"But she is asleep now, she was crying earlier" said Margaret as she explained and Ernest Jr walked towards her as he took Joy from her carefully as he carried her in his arms and she was still fast asleep, as Margaret had said, there was a residue of tears on her cheeks.
"I will put her to bed" said Ernest Jr as he walked out of the dining room to put Joy in her room as Margaret stood up, she had left the dishes.
A few minutes later Ernest Jr walked into the kitchen as Margaret was finishing up as she cleaned the kitchen countertop.
"Father wants to see us" said Ernest Jr as he looked at his wife.
"What for?" asked Margaret as she looked at him and she walked to the fridge and she poured him a glass of water as she handed the glass to him, she was trying to get him to drink more water, so he would give his kidneys less work to do, besides it was good to drink lots of water.
"He called a family meeting" said Ernest Jr as he took the glass from his wife as he drank the water, knowing fully well that if he did not he would have her nagging to answer to.
"Well we cannot leave Joy all alone here, what if she wakes up?" asked Margaret as she collected the empty glass from Ernest Jr as she walked to the kitchen sink to wash the glass.
"Don't worry about that, I already asked Alfred to stay here and watch her, in case she wakes up" said Ernest Jr.
"Oh alright then" said Margaret as she wiped the washed glass with a cloth.
"When do we go see him?" asked Margaret.
"Right now" said Ernest Jr.
"Now?? Why so sudden?" asked Margaret.
"He said It is urgent" said Ernest Jr.
"Alright then" said Margaret.
…
"Good Evening Father" said Margaret as she smiled.
"Hello everyone, oh my boy, I didn't know you were here" said Margaret as she and Ernest Jr walked into the living room in Ernest's house, where everyone was already sitting there, in utter silence.
"Boys, you are all here as well, you as well Lia, this must be a really important family meeting" said Margaret as she laughed and she sat down beside Ernest Jr as no one said a word.
"What's wrong??" asked Margaret.
"You all look like someone just died" said Margaret as she laughed but no one seemed to be laughing, even Ernest Jr was wondering what was going on, he looked at his son, as his son avoided his gaze.
"Father, are you alright?" asked Margaret as now she was starting to get worried, why was everyone like this?
Ernest did not reply to Margaret as he kept on looking, as if he was fighting off tears.
"Can someone please tell me what is going on??" asked Margaret as she was starting to feel more worried than she already was, they were all acting like Joy.
"Dom, Michael, Charlie, Nine, Lia, someone tell me what's going on??" asked Margaret as she looked at every single one of them as they avoided her gaze, she looked at her son as he did not look at her, but she could take one look at him and know that something was seriously wrong.
"Margaret, please calm down" said Ernest as he finally spoke.
"Father, what is wrong?? Why are you all like this??" asked Margret as she could not calm down, it was clear that they all had bad news to tell her.
"Maggie calm down" said Ernest Jr as he looked at Margaret, he was as eager to find out what exactly was going on her, but it was clear that forcing them all to talk would do nothing but prolong the matter.
"But…" said Margaret.
"But nothing, just calm down as father has said" said Ernest Jr as Margaret reluctantly sighed as she stayed quiet.
"The thing is…" said Ernest as he did not know how to say this but he had to.
"Is what?" asked Margaret as she was impatient.
"Is… Natasha was found dead in a forest yesterday" said Ernest as he sighed and Margaret's eyes went wide.
"Tell me it's not true" said Margaret.
"Dom tell me it is not true" said Margaret as she looked at Dom and tears dropped from his eyes as tears started to drop from her eyes as well, Ernest looked away, he had not even told her about Larry yet, he could not bear to see this.
Margaret cried as Ernest Jr hugged her as she cried, he had a look full of disbelief, a look of many questions, and most of all a look of sadness on his face.
