The others stared at him. Willow's mouth hung open, and Kit shook their head in disgust. Nicasi's hand was on his conduit, his whole body tense as if ready to strike Ciprian down should he appear at that moment. Lysander stood at his side with eyes cold as ice, for once not doing anything to calm his partner down.

White-blue sparks of energy crackled at Alaric's fingertips, and for a moment, Rowan thought he might unleash it at the barrier. He clenched his hands into fists, and when he uncurled them again, his magic had retreated.
