As Rowan momentarily pulled back from the kiss, he was struck once more by Wren's beauty in the shadow-light of this strange place.

The onyx sheen of his hair was devastatingly dark, and the petal-soft flush on his skin seemed almost translucent. The gold of Wren's irises had that same otherworldly luminosity as they did earlier, standing out like pinpricks of brightness under the inky-black curtain of his lashes. The full curves of his lips seemed to be stained red with his desire.

Rowan's pulse quickened. He couldn't tear his gaze away even if he tried.

"Why are you staring at me like that? Does my face please you that much?" Wren arched an eyebrow, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

"Always." Rowan cupped Wren's cheek, running his thumb over the pink that had blossomed there. "I just never realized before today how beautiful it is here. It's like the light comes from somewhere else. Somewhere inside. Your eyes…they look like golden fire."
