‘Where exactly are we going again?’ I asked through the link as I stared at Rhett.

His eyes flickered up from the road for a moment to look at me through the rear view mirror. I could see his eyes crinkle at the corners, his smile hidden from me as he shook his head and looked away.

“Will you just wait? You’ve been asking that same question every five minutes,” Rhett chastised slightly, and I rolled my eyes as I leaned closer to him from behind his seat. I felt Hayden’s grip on my legs tighten as I switched positions and he held my back to keep me steady.

‘Well, if you told me the first time I wouldn’t need to be asking every five minutes, would I?’ I rebutted, but Rhett only pushed my head back with his hand and told me to wait until we got there. I felt hot air gather in my cheeks as I turned away from Rhett to look at Hayden.
