章節 33: An old friend.

Lanius sat in his bed and looked at Ahri who was still asleep. She looked so peaceful. So peaceful that he could sit there and watch her for hours.

The young man looked outside the window of the room. The city had countless Inns, yet they chose to stay at the same, even at the same room, again and again. Who knows why...

The sky was cloudy and a slight breeze travelled through the streets. As the Spirit Blossom season came to an end, the winter would soon come. They had about...two months till that. He had to search and find the first half and then travel through Valoran to Freljord through Demacia to find the second half.

What puzzled him more was how the Frejlordians would think of him. Not only was he the Winter, a usurper in their eyes, but also an impure usurper. Would they listen? Would he need to use an iron fist till he left? He had thought about these countless times since the meeting with the council.

Ahri's breath became inconsistent. Lanius turned towards her. The vesani opened her eyes and looked around.

"How long was I asleep?" she asked him.

"Don't worry, it's still morning. But you should get ready, cause we gotta go to talk to somebody."

"Who exactly?" Ahri asked as she sat up on her bed and stretched.

"Somebody that I'll need for the upcoming fights. A bruiser." Lanius replied.

"Bruiser? What's that?" she seemed confused.

"The term" Bruiser" is used to describe a muscled hand to hand fighter, usually a non martial artist." he explained.

"And why a bruiser?" the fox got up to get dressed, still being curious.

"Mainly because I have somebody in mind. Somebody that is kind of like me. A half-human, half-vastaya. They call him, The Beast-Man Bastard." Lanius turned around, giving her some sort of privacy.

"All right, where will we find this Beast-Man Bastard?" Ahri placed on one of her wrist guards. She seemed to struggle a bit. The young man looked at her attire for a few seconds. Her outfit resembled a skirt les, sleeveless hanbok.

"He's the owner of the pits in Ionia." Lanius made his way towards her and helped her tie it.

"The pits, what's that?" she asked as she raised her other hand for him to tie the other wrist guard. Lanius was sure that she did it on purpose.

"The pits are a place that Ionians and not come to bet on bloody duels." the young man raised his voice so Ahri could hear him. The two were now inside a building similar to a modern boxing stadium.

"It originated in Noxus. The Noxians brought it here with the war. After it ended, Ionians became more blood thirsty. One can bet on his favourite fighter." he continued.

"Where did you learn all this?" Ahri asked.

"From the previous Winters memories. Kayn filled me in on the Ionian part." Lanius explained.

The place was filled with humans and vastaya. The closer you got to the ring, the more people you found. The crowd cheered two fighters who currently battled. Lanius and Ahri stopped to watch.

A male human and a female Ziraq dueled against each other. The human had pinned the Ziraq down and was choking her. Then, with a twist, the Ziraq turned around and went on top of the human. She then proceeded to stab one of her battle claws on his back, and slit his throat with the other. The human fell down as blood splattered on the ring.

The Ziraq raised her head and roared like a panther. The crowd cheered her name.

"Adessy! Adessy! Adessy!"

The Ziraq licked her lips and roared again. She stretched her arms out in a victorious pose.

"Is this your bruiser?" Ahri asked.

"No, she'll help us get to him." the Winter said.

The Ziraq looked at the crowd. Her feline eyes then landed on the young man and a wide smirk formed in her face. As the crowd dispersed to settle their bets, the Ziraq stepped down from the stage and approached the duo.

"Havenz sev, Lany." she greeted him. The Ziraq went straight to Lanius. She jumped in his hug and gave him a lick in the right cheek, right at his stripes.

"Havenz sev, Addy." Lanius greeted her back. He then turned towards Ahri, who looked at them with a nonchalant expression. "It's a greet in the Ziraq dialect. It means "Long time, no see" ." he explained.

Adessy looked at Ahri from top to bottom, as if she was looking at a potential opponent. "Who's this? The lonewolf finally got a mate?"

Lanius saw Ahri turn red with the corner of his eye. "It's...kinda complex."

"Why don't we get a drink while we fill each other in?" Adessy proposed. "It's on me."

"I see...so I assume you wanna make them pay." Adessy stated. The three sat at a medium sized round table, somewhat away from the ring.

"Them? No. I want to make only one pay. I want to deliver a message to them. What happened once might happen again." Lanius replied. "I couldn't protect my tribe, so at least I'll protect my land."

"Well...wish you the best of luck." Adessy said as she sipped her drink.

Ahri looked at the pit, where another set of fighters had their death battle. "Why did you choose this...sport? Why risk your life?" she asked.

"It pays well...and it's also part of our culture. Ziraq are born hunters and warriors." she replied. "When the war starts, I think of buying my contract and joining you or returning home to protect it. Navori is good, but I missed Oulin."

"Addy, I need to speak to your boss. I have a deal for him." Lanius said. "Can you hook him up for me?" he asked her.

"I'll try. Come on." Adessy and the two got up from the table and began to walk. Adessy led the way and Lanius with Ahri followed.

"This pit once belonged to a Noxian yordle. The one we're looking for was the best fighter. He then...bought it. Now its more of a combination of the pit and other...unlawful stuff." she explained as they walked through.

Lanius turned towards the vesani. She seemed to stare at Adessy. Lanius followed her gaze and saw that she was looking at the Ziraq's glossy curves. Ahri seemed to be...jealous? Lanius took a good moment to look at Adessy from behind, top to bottom.

Adessy was wearing nothing more than a leather cropped, sleeveless yellow top, a yellow loincloth, leather wrist guards and boots. Basically, it resembled a striped down version of the traditional Ziraq battle armor.

The trio came to a hault in front of two big doors. Adessy signaled them to wait there and got in. Lanius looked at Ahri again, and chuckled when he saw that she was frowning.

"What's so funny?" the vesani's amber eyes darted towards him.

"I haven't seen you get jealous again." he explained.

"I'm not. Why would I be? We're more than friendls...it's not like I'd..." Ahri sighed at that point. Lanius began to laugh, causing her to turn around in embarrassment.

"For a charming, seductive predator...you sure are naive." Lanius informed her. "Adessy is my best friend. I've known her since I was born. We don't have any mutual feelings for each other. The lick was simply a tradition of the Ziraq."

Ahri was not convinced.

The young man sighed. "Hear another thing. She likes girls. Are you now convinced."

Ahri rolled her eyes as the door opened and the Ziraq returned. "He's free now. You can go see him." she said.

Lanius and Ahri stepped through the door and into the room.
