17. Learning more, knowing less (part 3)

We finally entered through the Imperial Academy's huge front door and the first thing I saw was a field of short grasses the boundary of walls in the school seemed to be the classes or the school's various departments,and in a short distance was a small but very long building,I guess that's the main hall.

The young lady seemed to be leading us to that building.

We finally got to the door which was much more smaller than the one at the main entrance, the young lady didn't open the door but rather she looked from her left to right after a while she turned back to look at us ,or rather our feet since she was finding it hard to look at uncle Withward in the eyes

"follow me"

those are the words which Left her mouth before quickly moving to another part of the building 🏫,we quickly did as she said and followed her,

after passing the right side of the she stopped and then began to move forward,but the way forward was nothing but a black wall

"I am sorry for this, but are you sure this is the right way?"

I looked at the woman doubtfully

but she didn't even spare me a moment of a glance as she continued walking forward,

and within a short period of time her whole body had gone through the wall, I was amazed by what I had just seen,I looked at uncle Withward confused

"Ascimos?"

"yeah"

I focused my gaze on uncle Withward's back,

"you don't trust her?"

I was surprised by his question so I stuttered a bit

"no...t.that's...not...it...."

"then why the question?"

I was unable to really think of a concrete answer

Uncle Withward was carrying Subaru in his shoulder so he couldn't really turn back to look at me, it's amazing that he isn't tired, because being able to carry Subaru like that means two things

1 is that Subaru may actually be really light which I know for a fact is very unlikely since I tried to carry him myself after he became unconscious,so since it isn't the first then it must be the other, which means

2 Uncle Withward worked out in secret

"it's nice to be skeptical a little but make sure you don't become paranoid"

Uncle Withward's words brought me out my strain of thoughts,it took me a while to understand what he meant but by the time I could figure it out he too had gone through the wall just like that lady, and I was left alone

"oh, so that's what he means,I should trust people more"

well he isn't wrong,I do find it hard to trust people, this remind of the time when I was suspicious of uncle Withward motives 2 years ago just because he was too nice,but all that is in the past now.

I looked up to see the ceiling of the building and then I took a few step back to look at the sky while stepping on the grass.

At least, if I can't trust that lady I should have more faith in uncle Withward,

hehehe, that was really a weird question though, I wonder how the young lady must have felt, I looked up towards the ceiling of the building,and I walked back a little, soon enough I was stepping on grass and the place where I was looking at was no longer the ceiling but the sky,I immediately slapped my cheeks with both of my hands,took a deep breath in and closed my eyes. Then soon enough I ran towards the wall, even though my eyes were still closed I could tell something foreign was happening to my body, and before I could open my eyes I had already ran into something hard

"Owwww"

I held my nose in pain, then opened my eyes to get an image of what I had just ran into, but to my surprise,I hadn't ran into 'something' but rather 'someone' and that someone was none other than uncle Withward,I had ran into his back accidentally

"oh?"

he turned back to see me with my left hand on my nose,he seemed to have gotten the situation so he said

"sorry Master Ascimos"

"it's alright"

I replied removing my hand from my nose

|... but I can do without the master part...|

I began looking around at where we were now

"wow,this place is.... lovely"

I couldn't really express myself on what I really thought about the place but to say the truth it had that depressing vibe ,the type of vibe a nerd gets when in a new school

"Totally not what I was expecting"

I was really disappointed,

I turned to look at Subaru who was still sound asleep on uncle Withward's back,

|...I thought he said the place was supposed to be fun,seems a lot like school if you ask me...|

at my back was a wall,to be specific the wall I had just passed through and what it led to was a long and narrow hallway which at the end was a black door that had two people standing by its sides one had a box full of papers 🗞️ in his hands while the other was taking out the papers in the box and reading outloud what was written on those papers, what he seemed to be reading were numbers, and he only read those numbers when someone came out from the door him and the other guy were guarding,after that some people would stand up and enter into the door. Two long sits were put by the side of the hallway with each on both sides,and on it sat different people each of them having some kids or a child and a few people who looked like attendant with them all sitting down,they seem to be waiting for someone or something, the ceiling was color white having chandeliers hanging from it in series.

|.....this looks like a scenery that was torn right our from a castle's layout,but the atmosphere and vibe which is being given off reminds of when Gon wanted to take the hunter exam....|

Well that's by the way though, moving on....

On the floor of the hallway was a red long carpet that led all the way to the end and the hallway also had long vertical windows with transparent glass which were opened with the rays of the sun 🌞 passing through them,wait rays?

I blinked my eyes a few times to make sure I wasn't seeing things,

How is it that the rays of sun reaches this place?

I am not a master of house planning nor am I a hidden genius in the field of mapping of Houses but it doesn't take one to be a genius to figure out that it should be literally impossible for the rays of the sun to reach this place, simply because we didn't take the front door meaning we are in an entirely different building and even if we are in the same building, this place is too narrow to be the same building and since we cut corners the rays of the sun are supposed to come from one side of the building but right now it was from both sides,

|...what exactly is going on here...|

I asked myself that question, puzzled by how this phenomenon exactly works, before I knew it ,I was subconsciously staring at uncle Withward's back while pondering on it

"I think it's time we woke him up"

Uncle Withward said after looking at me maybe he thought I missed Subaru or something, because he saw me looking at his back, but for some reason he decided to jump to the conclusion of waking Subaru up which I think is a really bad idea

"are you sure bout that?"

I gave uncle Withward a 'i don't trust that idea' look🤨

"don't worry, it's fine"

Uncle Withward then went to a corner of the hallway and dropped Subaru down

"Even if he was to have another screaming episode he won't be able to run away the reason being that he doesn't know how we got in here in the first place but just to be safe...."

Uncle Withward turned his face to look at me

"don't tell him we are in the academy"

he said while raising his eye glass a little, giving it a glint

"you don't have to tell me twice"

I looked away to another side of the room, Uncle Withward then brought out a handkerchief from One of his pocket in his vest and used it to slap Subaru really hard

"owww,what was that for?"

Subaru asked while using his palm to rub the side of his face that was slapped

|...just how hard did Uncle Withward slap him I wonder ...|

last time I checked, waking Subaru up wasn't an easy task,he must have been slapped really hard

"you were doing the right thing at the wrong time,so I thought I'll discipline you a little"

Uncle Withward then stood up and kept the handkerchief back into his vest

"what do you mean by that? hey?"

Subaru called out to him,but he was given no reply,I on the other hand tried my best not to get involved

Uncle Withward then turned to face the young Blue hair lady who all this time had been with us,but he seemed surprised

"oh I am so sorry,I didn't know you were still here miss..."

Uncle Withward was about to fully apologize only to find out he never asked for her name

"miss venelepi"

the young lady replied, helping uncle Withward to complete his sentence,I could tell that she was trying her best not to look at uncle Withward's face

"okay ,miss venelepi,where to next?"

Uncle Withward asked with a smile,a smile so radiating that if misses venelepi had seen it,she may have falled for him right then and there,but luckily she didn't see it

"oh,If you would just follow me"

she said and starting walking through the hallway

Uncle Withward followed her,I too Even Subaru followed although he did seemed puzzled about what was going on

"please just take your sit"

Miss Venelepi stretched her hand towards a sit by one side of the hallway, beckoning on us to sit down which we did,she then gave uncle Withward a paper that had the number '42' on it and said

"when that number is called please go straight to that door"

pointing towards the door that was being guarded by two men

"why thank you"

Uncle Withward said showing a sense of gratitude

"see that man by that door, the one calling out numbers?"

Miss Venelepi asked

"yes I do see him"

he gave a positive response

"when he calls this number you go straight into that door"

she used her finger to point at the number written on the paper and then pointed that same finger to the door maybe trying to buttress her point

"if there's nothing else,I'll take my leave"

she said and for a split second I saw her staring at uncle Withward's face then she quickly looked back down,her face became all red

"thanks for all the help you've been to us ,we really appreciate, Don't we Ascimos and Subaru?"

Uncle Withward winked at both me and Subaru signalling us to say something

I quickly pushed Subaru's head down and also place mine down and said

"why yes thank you"

"yes we deeply appreciate"

Subaru replied,after taking a while to understand what was going on but yet he didn't scream nor shout

"oh it's... nothing..."

after finally looking at uncle Withward in the face again she started fidgeting

after miss venelepi said that she bowed her head and straightway made her exit

|...I really need to find a way to make such situations from occuring...|

I thought to myself, remembering how many women usually end up in this situation just after seeing uncle Withward,but I can't say the same is certain for aunt Layla and Lia, only they know why they even like Uncle Withward

"well that was nice"

I said with a sly smile 😏

"what was?"

Uncle Withward looked at me seeming dense as ever

"never mind,so what now?"

I asked Uncle Withward staring at the paper in his hand

"we wait"

he replied with an honest answer I guess even he doesn't know what's going to happen next

I quickly relaxed back into the chair they made us sit in,and I must say it was very comfortable,

While I was busy relaxing I saw a peculiar group of people being led by someone coming out from a corner of the room

"Shoot!!!"

I exclaimed, quickly turning to look at Subaru but luckily he didn't notice them nor the Time they came in

he seemed to be deep in thought.

The people who had just walked in looked..... well unique?

the group was made up a 2 men dressed in the attendant's dress code and a little girl who from her stature seemed to be about my age, coincidentally they came and sat right opposite us,I pretended not to stare inorder to not seem like a creep,but I was using the corner of my eyes to scan her from head to toe,I couldn't see her face clearly cause a black veil covered it,but I think I could see her hair which was ...is it...

"psst"

I was about to get a vivid imagination of the color of her hair but a sound disturbed me,I looked to were that sound came from and to my surprise,it was Subaru,who hadn't said a word since , until just now

"hey what's wrong?"

I asked sincerely worried

"quick question, is that door being guarded by those two guys the main entrance?"

he asked with his two hands clenched between one another

"no,I don't think so,maybe?"

I replied, knowing fully well that's not the main entrance but it wouldn't hurt to give him a little hope

"so basically you don't know if that's the main entrance"

"you've got me, you're right, I don't know and besides we seem to be heading to that direction so of course it isn't"

I admitted to it

"okay but..."

"Number 42!!!"

Subaru was about to say something when the man who was calling out numbers just said 'number 42'

"guess that's our queue"

Uncle Withward said standing up and looking at me and Subaru, using his hand to signal us to get moving

we walked up to the two men and stood Infront of the door, they didn't show any sign of stopping so I guess it was okay.

|....I wonder what lies beyond this door that so many people have gather for ,our reason for coming here will soon be known....|

I thought as uncle Withward opened the door, slowly but eventually we got in and closed the door behind us.

"welcome"

that's the first words we heard and it came from an old man dressed in a black cloak.

There are many great mysteries to be uncovered, could this old man be

the answer to them all?

I looked at him in the eyes and he started looking straight back at me

|...I hope I can learn more things about this world by being here...|
